Edge Dock Levelers

When do buildings need dock levelers?
Whenever they do not have docks that match the height of today’s truck. Over the years, trucks have become much taller. Standard beds average a height of 52-53” and refrigerated beds range from 54-55”. Older buildings may have docks as low as 45”-49” and require some sort of dock leveler equipment to facilitate fork truck traffic from the dock to the truck.

What is an “edge of dock” leveler?
An edge of dock leveler attaches to the side of the dock, extending its range by 5” vertically and 5” horizontally. This means that if a dock is 49” in height, an edge of dock unit can enable it to access trucks measuring 54” in height. They are much more economical than pit mounted loading dock levelers, which have to be embedded in the concrete itself and represent a considerable cost for a retrofit.

How does an edge of dock leveler work?
When a truck backs up to the EOD leveler, two rubber bumpers stop it in precisely the right position. The ramp is then into position with a tool known as a ratchet riser. This bridges the distance between the dock equipment and the bed of the truck so forklifts, fork trucks, pallet jacks, and workers can cross over. With refrigerator trucks, it is normally necessary to install a refrigerator lip on the edge of the ramp to extend it an additional three inches into the truck bed.

What is the difference between a lo-dock leveler and an edge of dock leveler?
A lo-dock leveler is a factory add-on that increases the height differential of an edge of dock unit. In some older buildings, the dock height is significantly less than that of today’s modern trucks. Buildings that were built in the 40’s and 50’s may have docks as low as 45”-48”. The problem with using an edge of dock leveler alone is that it will only add 5” to this height—an insufficient amount. For buildings like this, Easy Rack can arrange to add a lo-dock leveler to an edge of dock unit. Such a unit can then add up to 11” total to any dock height, effectively overcoming the 5” limit of standard edge of dock levelers.

How much weight can an edge of dock leveler handle?
Most edge of dock levelers will handle capacities between 20,000 and 25,000 pounds. Many are manufactured with a self-storing handle that makes them easy to position by pulling the handle to the dock floor. The latch assembly activates the lip forward to the floor of the trailer when the handle is lifted, and the handle automatically returns to the stored position when it is released. Edge of dock levelers include bumpers and bumper blocks and can be custom manufactured in widths of 72” and 78” per request.

Yard Ramps

What is a yard ramp?
It is a type of loading dock ramp that allows a forklift to enter a shipping containers or truck trailer in from a facility that lacks an elevated loading dock or it allows a forklift to move from an elevated dock onto the ground. Pneumatic wheels on the ramp allows it to be moved into place by fork trucks, and hydraulic pumps built into the unit enable workers to position it at the precise height of a truck trailer bed, rail car, or loading dock.

What features to Easy Rack yard ramps have?
All commercial ramps (both dock to ground and ground to truck) are manufactured with an all steel welded construction. Weight capacities vary from 16,000 to 60,000 pounds and a wide range of length and width sizes available. Serrated grating gives the ramp excellent traction and prevents water, snow, oil, grease and miscellaneous debris from building up. The lower end approach plate provides maximum support and smooth transition onto the ramp grating surface. Heavy-duty formed steel side girders provide main load-bearing capability, and deep side members prevent forklift runoff.

What are yard ramps used for?
Yard ramps are essential for any warehouse or factory that was built without an elevated dock ramp. They allow work crews to bridge the gap between the building and the trailer and safely move supplies off the truck by forklifts. This is much more convenient, quicker, and more cost effective than unloading and loading containers by hand. In other cases, however, the reverse may be true. A building with a large outdoor stockyard may require a forklift to move from the loading dock onto the ground to either retrieve or organize supplies outdoors. This is often seen in shipyards and rail yards, and it requires a dock to ground ramp to allow vehicles to safely move from the dock to the yard.

How do I know what size yard ramp to choose?
The size of the ramp you purchase will depend upon a number of factors relative to the weight of the heaviest forklift and the heaviest load being moved along the ramp. Easy Rack recommends you select a unit that is three times the rated capacity of the lift truck it supports. Rail yards require a 36’ unit that includes a level off. Standard dock to ground units typically measure 30’ straight. When deciding on the width of the yard ramp to use, it should always be 15” wider than the widest equipment moved along its surface.

Can yard ramps be customized?
Yes. In fact, we recommend that any organization working multiple shifts and who are moving a wide variety of material types and equipment contact a specialist to discuss additional components that can be used to increase the stability, safety, and functionality of these units. These customization options include, but are not limited to, safety chains, ramp clamps, and tow bars.

Used Pallet Racking

Used pallet racking saves companies as much as 40% of the purchase cost of new equivalents. Used pallet racking by Easy Rack is available in all standard types, sizes, and styles on a nationwide basis. Pallet racking systems can also be custom designed with the assistance of an Easy Rack material handling specialist. They can be built to match interior warehousing conditions, terrain, specific climate, and the seismic environment of a particular region of the country.

What is the best design for used pallet racking?
The "best" design is often determined by the application and is therefore hard to point to as an absolute standard. The industry standard for most applications is used pallet racking in teardrop design.

Used teardrop pallet racks are made using a boltless design that makes assembly and adjustment easier. This also keeps the platform more stable and prevents it from buckling in the middle. Teardrop used pallet racking is braced with heavy channel steel and is supported by tensile steel columns that keep the entire structure immobile and therefore more stable when storing a large amount of weight.

What type of pallet racking should be used in heavy fork truck traffic areas?
In these areas, we recommend you install heavy-duty, industrial used pallet racking that can handle weight capacities of 48,000 lbs and are built to withstand occasional fork truck collisions.

What is the best type of decking to use?
That depends on the application. Steel decks are recommended for the most heavy-duty industrial storage provided they comply with fire codes. In medium and light duty storage, wire decks are generally preferred because of fire control issues. If the sprinkler system in a warehouse or factory is triggered, water can flow between the mesh of the wire without being stopped by a solid platform.

What is the difference between custom warehouse pallet racking and custom structural pallet racking?
Used warehouse pallet racking systems are built to organize and store materials that anticipate future expansion. These systems are designed so they can be adapted and added onto as the size and storage needs of a facility increases.

Used Structural Heavy Duty Pallet Racking is made for impact resistance in high traffic areas. Easy Rack builds structural upright systems in a variety of well-known, standard styles such as Inca, Sturdibilt, Steel King, Frazier, Arco, and Speedrack.

If you are uncertain which type of used pallet racking, supports, system style, or deck you require for your organization, it is best to have a custom system built to the exact specifications of your storage facility, the parameters of your operations, and the changes anticipated due to forecasted growth. If you provide your Easy Rack specialist with this information, we can perform all the necessary calculations to build your system to safely maximize your storage space and improve your inventory control.

Shelving Racks & Rack Shelves

Rack Shelving transforms floor space, walls, and large sections of the vertical cube into organized storage space. Shelving racks are made from the highest commercial grade steel and can be obtained in any size or industrial strength. New and used models ban be ordered in open backed shelf racks, closed back racks, or wide span units. Shelving racks are often connected together either side by side or one on top of the other. It is not unusual to find several open backed units connected side by side and used to store paperwork and company files. Closed backed shelving systems can be linked together one on top of the other in a “box shelving” configuration that can hold up to 2,000 pounds of weight.

The strength and longevity of Easy Rack shelving is unmatched in the material handling industry. Each unit, regardless of build or weight capacity, is coated with two layers of protection prior to being drop shipped to its destination. The first protective layer is a coating of iron phosphate that prevents oxidation from salt air and airborne industrial pollutants. The second protective layer is baked enamel painted onto the steel racking that helps reduce dents and warping during use and accidental impacts.

The commercial grade steel used in the manufacture of our rack systems ranks as the highest in the industry. Because bay doors and loading docks of many facilities are often open to the outdoors—and therefore exposed to extremes in heat and cold in many parts of the country—Easy Rack commercial shelving systems are reinforced with the highest commercial grade metal protectors to make sure your material storage units withstand the elements over the course of many years of use and extended exposure to climate variations.

Two of our most popular and versatile rack shelving options are industrial metal warehouse shelves and long span and wide-span warehouse shelving, also known as Rivet Rack Shelves.

Industrial Rack Warehouse Shelving
Warehouse storage shelving racks are frequently stacked on top of each other and bolted together to create boxed shelving systems. Such systems can easily hold up to 2,000 pounds of material.

Warehouse shelves can be bought as in either open-backed units or close-back units. Open-back shelf systems give employees convenient access to materials from all four sides. Closed back units act like cabinets that can either be stood against the wall or shut tight and locked up after hours.

Long-Span Shelving Racks
Long span used commercial shelving racks are designed to stand to the side of a room or warehouse and convert horizontal and vertical wall space into storage shelving. These wide span units can be linked end-to end to cover the entire wall of a large facility, or they can be used as stand-alone units behind counters in retail service centers, parts stores, and hardware stores.

Wide span shelving is made from 24-gauge steel shelving supported by steel beams built around a two-piece design. This increases the shelving rack’s center of gravity and allows it to evenly distribute loads that weigh up to 35,000 pounds.

Easy Rack carries a wide variety of custom made shelving, commercial shelving, material handling equipment, commercial lighting, used pallet racks, and modular prefab buildings installed nationwide. Warehouse Shelves & Shelving Systems

Most companies realize they need new warehouse shelves when they run out of space and are facing an imminent move. In many cases the move is not necessary because plenty of space still exists within the facility. Poorly organized supplies, materials, and products can quickly fill a room with clutter, creating the perception that space is limited when it really is not. Both floor space and vertical cube space often go wasted, unnoticed as to the potential they represent.

Warehouse shelving will convert this horizontal and vertical space accordingly into highly organized compartments of efficiency. Products and supplies can then be sorted and stored by category, type, size, or material build, making it easier to maintain track of inventory in the process. Knowing exact counts of crates, boxes, parts, products, and raw materials is the best way to avoid over purchasing, and accurate inventory records also play a very big role in tax valuation at the end of each quarter.

Sometimes sensitive materials like certain chemicals need their own special storage area for safety reasons. They require certain temperatures and a certain level of ventilation to remain stable indoors. Smaller warehouse shelves can be placed in these areas and used to store these substances with minimal hazard to employees and the environment.

Warehouses that see a lot of shipping and receiving activity perhaps benefit the most from shelving units. When trucks and forklifts are rapidly loading and unloading supplies it is vital to stay on top of process flow. The organization that warehouse shelving offers such an operation can mean the difference between staying on schedule or falling behind and having to make up the difference during costly overtime.

The type of warehouse shelving used in a specific environment depends a great deal on the weight of the load it is supporting and the method of retrieval workers used to access materials on the shelf. Different sized industrial shelving units are used in specific environments. The strength of the shelf will to a certain extent determine what can be stored on it.

Workers who need to quickly retrieve small parts or boxes will have a much easier time working with open backed warehouse shelves because they can access these units from the back and the sides as well as the front. Smaller open backed shelves are also used by office managers to store office supplies and documents.

Parts storage is commonly done by adding plates to the shelves inside closed back units. This creates bins that small components can be stored in. 18 gauge and 20 gauge closed back warehouse shelves that can easily support 400-450 lbs in weight are routinely used for storing boxes in stockrooms. They can also be connected together to create box shelving systems that can hold up to 2,000 pounds in weight.

For storage of loads totaling over 2,000 pounds in weight, we recommend long span warehouse shelving. Long span systems, or wide span as they are also known, can convert entire walls into storage areas and can support loads of up to 35,000 pounds. Wide span units are designed with a unique two-piece steel beam support that increases the unitʼs center of gravity and more evenly distributes heavy loads over the surface of the shelves.

Dockboards

Loading ramps are metal boards and plates that bridge the gap between a building or dock and a truck bed. Mobile loading ramps are used in every industry and in every market place. They are common in agriculture, military factories, building, warehousing, and distribution. They are designed to make loading and unloading of trucks as fast and as safe as possible. Some loading ramps are designed specifically for rail cars, but the majority of these ramps are made for trucks and trailer beds. In certain situations, specialty loading dock equipment such as wheel risers and steel platforms may also need to maximize safety and process flow.

Dockboards
Dock Boards are loading ramps that bridge the gap between the dock and the truck to make loading and unloading safe. Dockboards are designed to handle power equipment like fork trucks. They have curbs on the sides to prevent vehicle runoffs and to provide additional structure and capacity. Because they must support vehicles as well as products and workers, most models are made of heavy duty steel, although Easy Rack also supplies lightweight aluminum models when appropriate and necessary. Capacities range from 6,000 to 40,000 lbs.

Dock Plates Aluminum
A / B Plates made are manual loading ramps made from high grade "diamond deck" aluminum. Although they closely resemble dockboards, never confuse the two. Aluminum dockboards or dock plates are designed for hand trucks and pallet jacks only.

Edge-of-Dock Levelers
These loading ramps are designed for high use docks that were originally constructed without pit mounted levelers. They are ideal for fork truck traffic that is from 5” below dock level to 5” above dock level. LTL and truck traffic also go much faster with levelers in place. Molded bumpers and a mechanical spring operation take the heavy work out of the lifting. This unique design also helps ensure the unit is correctly positioned each time it is used.

Steel Yard Ramps
These loading ramps are used for loading trucks from the ground, either because there is no truck high dock present, or because there are more trucks than docks. Yard ramps are portable and can be towed with a forklift. A hydraulic pump allows the height of the yard ramp to be adjusted, and deep side members prevent forklift runoff.

Mini Loading Ramps
These loading ramps offer an economical solution when the target height is ½ or less that of normal dock heights (generally 33” or less). Capacities start at 12,000 lbs and range upward. The mini ramp can be ordered with an optional mobility package that eliminates the need for a hydraulic actuated undercarriage to move the unit. Minis can be used with manual equipment and fork trucks. Capacities start at 12,000 lbs with standard and custom sizes available.

Hook & Apron Walkramps
These aluminum loading ramps are designed for foot traffic, hand trucks, and pallet jacks moved by hand. Standard lengths run from 3' to 16'and two widths of 29" or 39".

Wheel Riser Dockboards
If the dock is too high for incoming trucks, wheel risers fit under truck wheels so the bed can be positioned properly above dock for safer and faster loading.

Steel Dockboard Platforms
Steel dockboard platforms allow facilities to enlarge their dock areas installing platforms incrementally one at a time or by ganging them together to expand dock space significantly.

Industrial Shelving

Almost any balanced container, product, or item can be stored on an industrial shelf. Just as long as the object has a flat bottom, it will safely balance on the supporting shelf. Round containers can also be stored on industrial shelves provided they have a sufficient diameter on both ends that will allow the cylinder to rest securely on its end.

Used industrial shelves are available in all sizes, designs, and weight capacities. Light weight shelves are often used in offices. Medium duty and heavy duty models are used in warehousing, shipping/receiving, and automotive service industries. Industrial shelves tend to pay for themselves in a relatively short amount of time. By converting unused space into storage areas, they reduce the likelihood that an organization will have to spend money on relocation or an expansion. They also make it much easier for workers to access products and supplies and expedite process flow safely and efficiently.

Different industrial shelf systems are used for different types of environments. 18 gauge and 20 gauge closed back industrial shelves will easily support 400-450 lbs in weight and are commonly used for storing boxes in stockrooms. Smaller, open-backed shelves and other used commercial shelving are utilized used by office managers to store important documents, tax work, and office supplies. Larger industrial shelves can hold up to 2,000 pounds in weight and are used for medium level storage of heavier crates and machine parts.

When choosing industrial shelving units, keep three things in mind:
  1. The first thing to keep in mind is safety. When storing extremely heavy items and large containers, always invest in shelving whose weight capacity exceeds the total weight of items. Maxing out a brand new shelving system is never a good idea. A worker probably will not be aware of that a shelf already contains all it can handle and inadvertently add additional weight beyond safe limits.
  2. The second thing to keep in mind is accessibility. If workers need to retrieve items from the front of the shelf only, closed back industrial shelving offer a sturdy, cabinet like design build for stability and security (the units can be shut and locked at night if necessary). If the materials that are stored are not that sensitive, or if workers need to access them from any angle at will, open ended systems work well for this task.
  3. Keep perspective in mind as well. The dimensions of a shelf are not true indicators of the actual interior, usable storage space. To make certain every square cubic inch pays you back for your investment, talk to your material handling specialist about usable storage space, weight capacity, accessibility, and methods of ensuring the unit remains stable and secure in every conceivable scenario.
Easy Rack sells a full selection of small, mid-sized, and heavy duty steel industrial warehouse shelving systems. We sell both new equipment and used equipment, including long span units that can run along an entire warehouse wall. If cost is an issue, we recommend investing in used equipment. Netting

How many types of commercial nets exist?
There are more types than we can comprehensively address in a single article. Easy Rack categorizes netting by application based upon the most sought after materials and major industry uses. We have nylon nets, mesh nets, personal safety nets, golf driving range nets, cargo nets, protection netting, and barrier netting, just to name a few.

What materials are nets made from?
Netting is made from nylon, polyester, or a new plastic polymer called “polypropylene”, which is extremely strong and resilient.

What industries use netting?
Any type of theme, amusement, or Water Park will have nets around rides and pools to provide safety for park enthusiasts. Parks also use barrier netting to restrict access to certain areas and to direct traffic along certain pathways.

Construction companies use netting for safety, fall protection, and debris containment. Some very large nets are designed to be used as lifts for heavy materials.
Warehousing and distribution centers use netting around mezzanine systems and work platforms to prevent workers and materials from falling to the ground. Factories use them as well as protective boundaries that isolate dangerous equipment.

Both material handling operations and construction crews require safety nets for fall prevention. Not only are these products useful to process flow, they are required in most instances by local, state, and even federal safety regulations.

What is debris containment?
Industrial operations often produce debris and byproducts that fall to the ground. Without something to catch this debris as it falls, workers on the ground are subject to injury, and machinery is subject to damage. Debris containment netting minimizes the risk of injury and damage to persons and property.

Can netting be used to lift industrial materials?
Very powerful nets called cargo nets, or "lift" nets, are often used to do exactly that. They can be attached to a crane or other lifting device and used to safely lift supplies from the floor to mezzanine systems or rooftops.

What is nylon netting still so popular?
Nylon is an ideal material for safety and sports netting. Nylon has 3 times the abrasion resistance of polypropylene and does not rot. In other words, it can take more of a beating in a rough environment. It is also extremely resistant to extremes of heat and cold and holds up very well in humid climates like the American South.

What is mesh netting used for?
Very powerful mesh is used for debris containment and lifting. Very fine mesh is used by a number of commercial and governmental facilities as a security measure. Mesh will allow a small amount of light to shine through, but it will obscure visibility on the other side of the mesh. Mesh netting of this sort can be used as a cheaper substitute for a solid barricade or a costly build out of a new wall.

Steel Shelving

Used commercial steel shelves transform interior walls and vertical air space into organized, safe, efficient storage space. The improvement this consolidation brings to organizations facing an imminent move is often leads to the move being canceled and a large amount of money being saved. Additional savings come soon afterwards as employees find materials and supplies faster and finish their jobs in less time. Keeping accurate tabs on inventory becomes easier, which in turn averts over purchasing and often uncovers opportunities for tax breaks.

Easy rack steel shelves are manufactured from the highest commercial grade steel and can be ordered in either new or used condition. Steel shelves of this caliber will withstand extreme temperatures and sudden climatic changes in any region of the country. Commercial grade metal protectors further ensure that shelving systems withstand the elements any time the bay doors to warehouses are open and units become exposed to the outside air.

Industrial clients can obtain steel shelving systems in a number of different strengths, sizes, and design builds to accommodate any factory, warehouse, storage room, office, or even retail facility.

Open-backed shelving
As the name indicates, there an open-backed shelf is either open to the air or an adjacent wall. It is made from a steel frame that supports the individual shelves. The strength of an open-backed system is determined by the gauge of steel from which it is constructed. Larger, industrial strength units are used to store boxes and crates that require immediate access from the front, back, or sides of the shelf. Smaller shelving units are often used in to store bins containing office supplies or files of paperwork for inventory and tax purposes.

Closed-backed shelving
These steel shelves are closed on both sides and the back by steel plates. The entire unit can be closed shut and locked together for security purposes, or it can be opened and pushed against a wall. Closed back steel shelves units companies the stability of a design very similar to a cabinet but with much greater resistance to wear and tear and a much greater capacity to support heavy loads.

Both open-backed systems and closed-back systems are powder-coated with iron phosphate and painted with baked on enamel that prevents corrosion and buffers them against occasional collisions. These shelving units can also be used to build industrial shelving systems by bolting the bottom of one unit to the top of another with adjustable clips. This form of customization is known as “box shelving” and can create storage systems that can support up to 2,000 pounds in weight.

Long-Span & Wide-Span Shelving
These are the heaviest duty steel shelving systems found in the industrial world. They are designed extra long and can be connected together end-to-end to transform an entire factory or warehouse wall into storage space.

Wide span and long span shelves are made from 24-gauge steel and are designed to support up to 35,000 lbs. in weight. Surprisingly, though, they are not always used for heavy-duty storage. Many auto parts stores, tire an lube service centers, and hardware stores often use wide span units to store products, paperwork, reference materials, and product manuals behind the front counter.

Wide span shelves are supported by steel beams built around a two-piece design that increases the unit’s center of gravity and enables it to support a greater amount of weight without tipping or buckling from normal use or even the occasional accidental impact.

Metal Storage Shelving

Metal storage shelving brings efficiency, improved safety, and faster completion of tasks to factories and warehouses. Metal storage shelving is available in a wide range of steel wire gauges and design builds to accommodate both small storage areas and large, heavy duty warehouse environments. Investing in the right steel shelving system now can make the difference between meeting budget and going in the hole. Inefficient organization and slowdowns in production can quickly add up to costly overtime hours, lost contracts, or even worker injuries. Investing in metal storage shelves can also convert previously unnoticed space into usable storage areas that minimize the need for relocation and create a safer overall environment to operate in.

Closed Metal Shelving
Closed metal storage shelving is closed on the sides and the back and offers the security of a cabinet. Closed metal storage shelves can be folded together and locked for security, or they can be opened fast and placed against the wall, using the flat vertical service as brace. The sturdy steel construction makes it possible for these units to safely organize and support 450lbs of materials.

Closed Shelf units can be used in factories, storage areas, warehouse floors, and even office areas. Some companies convert shelves into storage bins by adding vertical sections. This is often done in assembly line environments where workers need access to small parts that are efficiently organized and easily retrievable. 10 gauge metal storage shelving is generally used in office environments and for light storage in back rooms. Heavier, 20 gauge steel closed shelves feature a standard 36 inch width and are available in a variety of height and length dimensions. Custom sizes can also be ordered through your Easy Rack material handling specialist.

Open Metal Storage Shelving
Open metal shelving offers two very important advantages to cramped facilities. Because they are often much taller than wide, they can be placed in narrow quarters and convert unused vertical space into storage rack space. Also, because they have not back or side panels, they can be accessed from any direction.

Although they may appear more fragile than closed backed units, 20 gauge open metal storage shelves are quite sturdy. They can easily handle up to 450 pounds in weight. 20 gauge steel shelves are ideal material handling tools to invest in if you need to reorganize and consolidate your storage areas. Smaller gauge steel units are available as well, ideal for parts storage, lighter materials and boxes, and even paperwork and office supplies for indoor storage environments.

Industrial-Strength Metal Storage Shelving
Wide span or long span metal shelving is commonly referred to as industrial strength steel shelving because it is designed to accommodate extremely heavy loads and large components. Some wide span units are so long they can convert an entire wall into efficient compartmentalized storage space. Long span shelving units can be purchased in sizes measuring up to 24-gauge and offer industrial clients a reliable method of storing motor parts, construction materials, and tools. Because they are corrosion resistant, they are also used for chemical storage as well.

Rivet Shelving
If you are storing very light weight materials and need a shelf that does not require additional braces and supports, rivet shelving will get the job done for a marginal cost. These shelves are the least expensive storage units we carry, and, like open shelving, allow you to access material from all sides and do not use braces that could obstruct storage access.

Mezzanine Metal Storage Shelving & Decking Systems
Mezzanine systems are intended to convert vertical cube space into multiple floors within a facility that is facing an imminent move due to space restrictions. They commonly increase storage areas in warehouses by as much as 150%. The investment in a mezzanine storage system is almost always less than that of a relocation, and the installation of these systems causes much less downtime than having to move and set up shop in an entirely new location.

Pallet Rack Metal Storage Shelving
Metal used pallet rack storage shelves have become standards in almost every warehouse and factory. This is because almost all raw materials and supplies are shipped on pallets, and pallet racks make it easy to simply store the pallets as they arrive than to break them down and store their contents individually. The man hours this saves companies is enormous, and can contribute significantly toward minimizing overhead and weekend catch-up work.

Used Pallet Racks

What benefits can we expect from used pallet racking?
Used pallet racks can save you up to 40% of the purchase cost of new pallet racks. For less money, you can experience the same structural stability, safety, and organizational benefits of pallet racking systems with less of a hit to your budget. Used pallet racks are equivalent in quality and performance to new systems.

What type of used pallet racking systems do you carry?
We can supply you with any standard model or arrange to have a custom pallet rack system built from used parts. Both standard and custom models can be obtained through your Easy Rack material handling specialist. We will provide you with the best system for your particular environment, terrain, indoor or outdoor conditions, and seismic quality of the floor or ground on which they are installed.

What type of used pallet rack do you sell the most?
Most of our clients prefer the teardrop pallet rack systems. Teardrop pallet racks are the industrial standard for most warehousing and manufacturing applications. They offer you a bolt less design that makes them easier to assemble and adjust. You will also have a more stable platform with less likelihood of buckling in the middle. Easy Rack teardrop systems are built heavy channel steel and supported by tensile steel columns to provide you with the safest and most reliable platform possible.

What is the difference between industrial and heavy duty used pallet racks?
There really is no difference between these terms. Heavy duty used pallet storage racks have metal shelving designed for high traffic and fork truck access. “Industrial” is sometimes used to refer to pallet racks with weight capacities of up to 48,000 pounds. They are constructed from structural steel and designed to withstand occasional fork truck collisions.

What type of pallet rack decking should be used?
Used wire decking is the most common type of decking used in industrial pallet racks. We can provide you with any of the three main forms of wire decking: waterfall, reverse waterfall, and lay-in decking. Fire codes are beginning to require wire decks because they offer no obstruction to fire suppression.

We can also provide you with wood decks can also be obtained by special request, but are not generally recommended due to the trend to use wire for fire codes. Heavy duty steel decking should be used for heavy duty industrial storage.

What are the best pallet racking systems?
Warehouse pallet rack systems and structural pallet racking systems normally meet the needs of almost all applications

Used warehouse pallet racks organize and store materials for organizations that anticipate growth or expansion. These systems are intended for adaptation and modification as workload and/or inventory increases. Warehouse pallet rack shelving helps convert your vertical cube and floor space into storage space, provide you with the best storage density within safety parameters, and facilitate either hand or fork truck access.

Used Structural Pallet Racks are extra sturdy, more stable, and more resistant to collisions than standard rolled pallet rack systems. Structural upright systems are available in a number of well-known, standard styles that include, but are not limited Inca, Sturdibilt, Steel King, Frazier, Arco, and Speedrack. Some pallet flow racking systems are designed for use exclusively indoors, while others can be used outdoors in construction or shipping areas.

Security Gates

Security gates can be installed in front of dock doors, lift-up doors, hallways, and entranceways. They improve security, prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas, maintain ventilation to the building, and provide guards and managers with visibility in both directions. They are used extensively throughout the industrial, manufacturing, commercial and even educational and healthcare industries. Major factories major factories, shipping operations, railways, airports, military bases, warehousing complexes, retailers, schools, universities, hospitals, medical laboratories, and office buildings all use security gates to maintain a more controlled environment at all times.

Security gates are made from 3/4" wide 14 gauge steel channel that have been riveted together back to back. The upright rails of the gate are hot rolled angled iron that keeps the gate from being pushed or broken through. To prevent the gate from being bowed inward from the very center or pressed down from above, a drop pin in the center of the gate immobilizes it and adds extra strength and stability.

Easy Rack gates can be obtained in any of four standard model types that can be further customized to fit uncommonly sized access points. Every gate features a locking bar to accommodate a standard padlock. Every security gate will also pivot 180 degrees to the side when it is not being used. Please keep in mind that it is normal for the gate to drop approximately one inch in height when it is extended across the doorway. When ordering, estimate gate height one inch above listed measurement to compensate for this slight variation.

Door Security Gates
Door gates are intended to fit door openings that measure 24" to 48" wide and 61" to 83" high. They are frequently used in office buildings to restrict access to doors in the backs of building. Small retailers and gas stations also use them to protect their storage areas late at night. Door security gates are manufactured with a reversible hinge design that allows you to mount them on either the left or right side of the door. You can either mount them in the door casing or in door opening itself.

Single Security Gates
These single-piece security gates are made do cover openings measuring 4-1/2ʼ X 7-1/2ʼ wide and up to 8ʼ in height. They are very often mounted over industrial bay doors, garage doors, and warehouse doors. Standard locking position for these gates is on the left side, but you can also have them customized to lock on the right side if required. As in the case of door gates, single security gates will mount either over the doorway itself or over the door casing. A ball bearing caster allows you to conveniently extend and retract the gate.

Double Security Gates
These large, two-piece gates will mount over industrial doors of any kind measuring up to 10ʼ in height. They are ideal for dock doors and overhead doors that have to permit vehicle as well as human traffic to pass through. Both sides of the gate pivot outward from the center a full 180 degrees. Double security gates lock together in the center with a standard padlock. Easy Rack will these gates to fit any size width of dock or overhead door

Portable Security Gates
Portable gates are used by schools and hospitals where certain areas must be restricted after normal hours of operation. Schools block off hallways and cafeteria areas with portable gates after students leave the building. Hospitals use portable security gates to block off certain areas of the building at night to restrict traffic only to key hallways and rooms.

Construction crews frequently rely on portable gates as safety tools. Workers mount them in doorways and hallways of buildings to prevent access to unfinished or unsafe areas. Portable gates collapse to a convenient 6 X 6.5ʼ when they are not being used and can be stored in closets or portable buildings.

Storage Shelving

Storage shelving units enable facility managers to convert unused space into valuable storage and organization space. Workers complete tasks faster when they can access materials quickly, safely, and easily. Companies often find these results in a significant reduction of man-hours and the elimination of overtime hours. Storage shelving also can potentially convert sufficient vertical cube space into storage space that a facility that was previously overcrowded now has plenty of room to continue operating, and the need to relocate no longer exists. Keeping overhead at a minimum and helping companies avoid the expenses of moving are just two examples of how storage shelving units can generate a tangible return on investment for organizations that invest in them.

Storage shelving systems can be used for storing almost any item or container that has a flat bottom surface. The bulk of our 18 gauge and 20 gauge steel wire shelves can easily handle 400-450 lbs in weight. Weight capacity is not the factor to consider when making a purchase, however. It is equally important to balance the load you are storing as it is to support the load. Otherwise, storage shelves can become imbalanced toward the front and tip over during use. To prevent this hazard, calculate the total length, width, and height of the total items you plan to store. The wider the crate or box, the more physical shelf area you will need to evenly distribute the load.

Easy Rack used commercial storage shelving is available in open backed models and closed back models. Both bring specific benefits to different environments and tasks. For smaller items that do not weigh very much, open backed systems provide plenty of support and allow workers to retrieve materials from the front, back, or even the sides of the shelves. Open back storage shelving is often used inside offices to store file boxes containing invoices, tax documents, and employee records. They are ideal for storing office supplies when you run out of closet space, or for storage in portable buildings that have no closets. Closed back shelves or custom made shelving are more stable because they partly rest against the wall. This reduces the risk of tipping and also helps conserve floor space.

If you intend to store very heavy crates, machine parts, or heavy containers, it is vest to overestimate the amount of weight capacity you will need and invest in an industrial strength storage shelf, rivet shelving or a wide span system. Employees may not be aware of the amount of weight already stored on the unit, and they may inadvertently add more materials than the unit can handle. This often happens when people are in a hurry. Industrial shelves are designed to minimize the risk of tipping, but overloading them will cause them to bow in the middle and reduce unit lifespan. Planning ahead will prevent this from occurring. When calculating weight capacity, always purchase storage steel shelving that allows room for growth and allows for contingencies and human error as well.

Also, please be aware that shelving dimensions refer to the total L x W x H measurements of the steel components, not the actual cubic storage space. As in the case of weight capacity, it may be necessary to purchase the next size up to give your facility the cubic storage you need for all of your materials. You can also call an Easy Rack material handling expert and look into having a custom unit built along to special dimensions.

Shelving Units

Shelving units offer you a more efficient and safe means of storing products and materials that streamlines your process flow with greater time efficiency. This immediately benefits any organization currently spending too much money on overtime. Companies that invest in shelving units often discover they have a lot more space than they originally thought, and reconsider future plans to expand or move to a new location. Eliminating the cost of an impending move is an excellent way to avoid losing oneʼs shirt in the middle of a recession, and having the proper material storage tools on hand to store equipment, products, and supplies greatly reduces the risk of injury when things are not properly placed and secured in a facility. All of these benefits spell ROI and recession proofing for the warehouse or factory in todayʼs economy.

Shelving systems by Easy Rack are available in all sizes and industrial strengths and can be used to store almost any item or container that has a flat bottom surface. A shelving unitʼs ability to balance a load is just as important is its ability to support a load. The majority of 18 gauge and 20 gauge steel systems can easily support 400-450 lbs in weight. The model you choose should be determined by the width and girth of the items you will be storing. The wider the crate or box, the wider the shelf needs to be to evenly balance and distribute the weight. The best place to install such a industrial shelving unit is right next to a warehouse or stockroom wall; preferably at the intersection of a corner so one side of the unit has additional support from the second wall. Some shelving units are so large they can be used to fill an entire wall and turn unused vertical cube space into storage space. Other very compact models can be offices to store paperwork and office supplies.

If you are storing very heavy equipment, parts, or heavy crates, you will need one or more used industrial strength shelving units. Heavy duty shelves of this nature are often used to organize and maintain inventories of large machine parts stored in crates and large metal containers containing chemicals or other supplies. As a general rule of principle, always overestimate the amount of weight capacity you will need for heavy duty storage. Steel shelving units can and will become unstable if their weight capacity is inadvertently maxed out. Simply adding a few items to the inventory without knowing how much weight is already pressing down on the system can cross the threshold of safety. The biggest danger here is not so much the shelves themselves buckling downward under the weight, but the system becoming top-heavy and prone to tip forward.

Another thing to consider is whether or not you will need an open backed shelving unit or a closed backed model. If the system is to be placed against a wall so you can retrieve items from the front, a long span shelves or closed back commercial shelving unit offers you maximum stability by resting part of its weight against the wall and minimizing the risk of tipping. If the items you are storing, however, are not that heavy and the risk of tipping is minimal, an open backed shelving unit offers you the convenience of retrieving materials from the front, back, or sides of the unit. Open backed or rivet shelves are common in assembly line environments where a team of people has to retrieve smaller parts from a series of storage compartments continually throughout the day.

Consider as well that shelving dimensions refer to the total LXWXH measurements of the steel components, not the actual interior storage space. Be sure to check with your material handling specialist first to see exactly how much cubic space you will need in your new shelving unit. It might be necessary to purchase the next size up, or arrange for a custom unit to be built, in order to fully meet your material storage and handling needs.

Collapsible Gates

Collapsible gates provide security, ventilation and visibility for dock doors, lift-up doors, hallways and entrance ways. Collapsible gates are used in a wide range of commercial and industrial environments, including manufacturing and warehouse facilities, retail and distribution centers, schools, hospitals, health care institutions, and office buildings.

Collapsible gates are made of 3/4" wide 14 gauge steel channel that is riveted back to back. The upright gate rails are made from hot rolled angle iron, and drop pins in the center of the gate give the middle section of the unit added strength and stability that prevent it from being pushed in or bent downward from the top.

Easy Rack gates come in four standard model types and can be customized to fit uncommonly sized access points. Every gate includes a locking bar and will pivot 180 degrees pivot out of the way when not in use.

Collapsible Door Gates
Door gates are designed to fit over door openings that measure 24" to 48" wide and 61" to 83" high. Collapsible door gates feature a reversible hinge design that allows them to be mounted on either the left or right side. You can mount them either in the casing itself or on the facing of the door opening.

Single Collapsible Gates
These one-piece gates are designed to fit openings 4-1/2ʼ X 7-1/2ʼ wide and up to 8ʼ in height. They are commonly used to provide security over commercial and industrial bay doors, garage doors, and warehouse doors. Single collapsible door gates are engineered to lock on the left side, but you can order them custom made to lock on the right side if necessary. Like door gates, single collapsible gates can mount either over the doorway itself or over the door casing. The lead rail of the gate features a ball bearing caster that allows for smooth extension and retraction of the gate.

Double Collapsible Gates
These two-piece gates can fit apertures measuring up to 10ʼ in height. They are used extensively in warehousing and manufacturing environments where building entrances have to be designed not only to permit human foot traffic, but vehicle traffic as well. Easy Rack can custom order these gates to fit any size width, including dock doors and overhead doors. Both sides of the gate will pivot a full 180 degrees outward to the side to permit material handling equipment and vehicle traffic. Double collapsible gates lock together in the middle with a standard padlock. For gates that will be installed inside a dock door, extended brackets can be ordered to keep gates back and out of the way of overhead doors.

Portable Collapsible Gates
Portable gates are ideal for construction sites and for use inside schools and hospitals where certain areas need to be restricted at certain times of day. In schools after hours, portable collapsible gates can be used to block off hallways and cafeteria areas. Hospitals can use them to restrict access to intensive care areas, laboratories, and other sensitive parts of the building.

Construction crews routinely use portable collapsible gates to stand in doorways and hallways of buildings that are still under construction, and to limit access to potentially dangerous areas and places where sensitive materials and equipment are being stored.

Portable gates collapse to 6 X 6.5ʼ when not in use and can be stored in closets or portable buildings when not in use.

Keep in mind that all gates drop approximately one inch in height when expanded. Be sure to take this into account when ordering your product to ensure that the expanded gate properly fits the vertical height of your doorway. If you have any questions or further need for customization, talk to an Easy Rack Specialist.

Portable Security Gates

Each gate is made from two 6 ft. wide sections and stands 6 1/2 ft. tall when folded. It can be easily carried through any standard door and rolled easily for storage. Additional 6ʼ sections can be added to a gate so it can be used to cover larger openings or to block off outdoor areas. The gate is made from standard type 14 gauge channel and locks to the wall by means of a locking bar and padlock.

A number of organizations and institutions use portable security gates to protect their property and restrict access on an as need basis.

Hospital Portable Security Gates
Traffic in hospitals falls off greatly after visiting hours. Only those people who are spending the night with a loved one tend to be in the building. These individuals do not need access to the entire building. They only require access to the personʼs room, break rooms, and restrooms. Hospitals will use steel portable security gates to block access to hallways that are not being used and to limit access to specific units by blocking off all entryways except for one. This keeps the facility quieter so patients can rest. It also helps keep the hospital cleaner by only allowing only limited traffic in hallways.

School Portable Security Gates
Schools have to keep a close watch on theft and vandalism. They commonly use portable security gates both in the building and outside the building to prevent access to the building. Places such as athletic equipment storage areas, science labs, cafeterias, and school offices are vulnerable to break-in if not protected. Certain outdoor structures and areas can also be the targets of vandalism. Portable folding security gates can be placed in front of these areas as a protective measure.

Construction Site Portable Security Gates
Many times when buildings are erected doorways are immediately cut in the wall. However, the interior of the new structure is not yet ready for general human occupancy. Workers who assume that an open door in the side of the building is the best and quickest way to enter may walk into any number of dangerous, or even deadly, safety hazards. Portable security gates placed over these doors can literally save a workerʼs life. Some crews may required by safety codes to use them. If you are a general contractor, mechanical contractor, or electrical contractor, it is always good to keep portable industrial security gates on hand just in case.

Public Event Portable Security Gate
Cities will often host public events and holiday celebrations at the city hall or civic center. Portable security gates are ideal for these events in two respects. They can be used to cordon off sidewalks that lead to areas where people do not need to be. Doorways into the building can be blocked with them as well it to prevent access to sensitive areas, and interior hallways that lead to break areas and restrooms can be open to the public and adjoining areas blocked with portable metal security gates.

Choosing Your Portable Security Gate
Decide if you will mount the gate within the entrance or in front of the door casing to the entrance, and measure the appropriate height or width. Consult with an Easy Rack specialist if you need a custom size, or find a standard size portable security gate in our inventory that matches the dimensions you require.
