Patio Canopy & Shade Structures

What is a patio canopy?
It is an outdoor, roof-like structure that covers a seating area or standing area that otherwise would be exposed to continuous, direct sunlight. Patio canopies or shade structures are intended to protect homeowners, guests, clients, children, pets, or plants from the heat and the ultraviolet radiation of direct sunlight.

How large are these sun shades?
Patio canopies are made to fit almost any standard patio. Common dimensions include 12’ x 10’, 12’ x 20’, and 12’ x 30’ shades.

What is a patio canopy made of?
The shade portions that works like a roof is made of a special fabric that features superior tensile and tear strength. Due to its heat resistance, it is also flame retardant. The frame that supports the outdoor shade structure is made of 16 gauge 2 3/8” galvanized steel with exceptional stability maintained by corner bracing and brass plates. Optional plant hangers are available upon request, along with shade panels for side protection.

What types of patios need a canopy?
Any garden patio that is home to plants needs shelter from UV radiation. While you may assume that all plants are tough and thrive in direct sunlight, this is certainly not the case. Many plant species grow in forests where the tree canopy above them blocks the majority of direct sunlight. Other species deliberately hug vertical surfaces that provide shade for the majority of the day. Still other species in cold weather climates are far more used to cloudy, rainy weather than they are to sunny days.

Some of these produce some of our most attractive flower and garden arrangements, and due to their sensitivity, need almost as much protection from UV rays and prolonged exposure to the sun as human skin requires.

Any poolside patio can use a fabric sun shade structure. This is because the water’s reflectivity will increase the intensity of light. A shade over the both the seating area and the water will minimize direct exposure to the sun. Tanning areas can be set aside where people can control the amount of time that they lay out in the sunlight

What organizations need patio canopies?
Any home with an outdoor seating area can benefit from one of these amazing awnings, canopies or shade structures. Kids and pets with sensitive skin will certainly do better with UV protection they provide. Businesses can save a great deal of money on building outdoor break areas simply by erecting a sun shade over a few benches or outdoor lounge chairs.

Everything from concession stands to seating areas at sporting events will benefit from shad structures as well. Trade shows depend on patio canopies to keep booth areas comfortable, and a wide range of other business that merchandise products or services near beaches or sidewalks also depend on sun shades to provide protection from heat and sunburn.
