Commercial Pallet Rack Beams

Easy Rack has many types of pallet rack beams made to accommodate a range of load requirements found in all sorts of industries. Selective pallet rack beams are available in the branded Mecalux style and the industry standard teardrop style. (The Mecalux style also works with Teardrop systems).

Our pallet rack beams can be adjusted on 2” centers and are sold in three different options. We sell one-piece units called step beams. We also sell JN beams, and we sell Z beams that are commonly used for building picking levels.

As previously noted, our most popular pallet rack beams design are those in the Tear Drop Design. They measure from 48” to 144” in length. Length and thickness determines weight capacity. Safety factors conform to current RMI standards. We recommend that if you use a single piece pallet rack beam that measures more than 108”, you should add an extra lateral support at the mid span point.

Another new and very popular design is the Easy Rack Ergo Pallet Beam. It has repeatedly proven itself to increase worker productivity while simultaneously reducing worker injuries.

It is manufactured from 4” of structural steel channel, which is far more resistant to damage than rolled steel. We have found that in 90% of impact-related accidents, structural steel beams can remain functional while repairs are being made in the meantime. Ergo beams are made to accommodate standard 48” X 40” pallets and can also be used with standard pallet supports. These units are sold by Easy Rack in three different model options as follows:

Standard- Channel flanges face inward and provide a comfortable surface for cartons.
Channel Flange Out- This protects bar-code labels from damage.

Label-Ergo Beam- Features a smooth surface and a 1/8” recessed web that prevents label damage.

The best thing about these pallet rack beams is they give you easy access to cartons that are hard to reach on lower shelf levels. This is because they create openings between pallet locations so order pickers can enter and reach rear cartons without causing damage.

This has reduced breakage of products in almost every business that has switched to using this type of pallet rack beam. In so many ways, it has proven itself the ideal solution for warehouse workers because of the way it splits the front shelf beam into two separate curved beams that attach to the rear horizontal.

In the case of companies with operations that consist of light loads that have little risk of product damage or injury, a great way to save money is to buy used pallet rack beams. Used Tear Drop models can be purchased in lengths anywhere 51”-153” in length. Because they are used, we cannot guarantee weight capacity, which is why we recommend you use them only when there is minimal risk to products and worker safety.

Pallet Rack Beams
Easy Rack has an extensive range of pallet rack beams that are designed to accommodate the diversity of load requirements found throughout the many different storage facilities we serve. Selective pallet rack beams can be ordered in the branded Mecalux style or the industry standard teardrop style. (One thing to keep in mind about the Mecalux style is it will also work with Teardrop systems).

Pallet rack beams are adjustable on 2” centers and come in three different options. They can be one piece units, called step beams. They can be JN beams, or they can be Z beams, commonly used for building picking levels.

As just noted, the most popular pallet rack beam design is the Tear Drop Step Beam. These range in length from 48” to 144”. Naturally, length and thickness determines weight capacity. Each beam’s safety factor conforms to current Rack Manufacturer Institute standards. Capacities are based on the even distribution of load throughout the beam. Single piece pallet rack beams that measure more than 108” long might have to have extra lateral support placed at the mid span point. (We recommend doing this).

Another design that is growing in popularity is the Easy Rack Ergo Beam. This pallet rack beam design has been repeatedly proven to increase worker productivity while simultaneously reducing worker injuries.

It is made from 4” of structural steel channel. Structural steel is far more resistant to damage than rolled steel. In 90% of impact-related accidents, these beams can remain functional and operations can continue while repairs are being made in the meantime. Ergo beams are intended to accommodate standard 48” X 40” pallets and can also be used with standard pallet supports. Manufacturers make these units in three different model options as follows:

Standard- The channel flange faces inward to provide a comfortable surface for cartons.
Channel Flange Out- The exterior flanges protect bar-code labels from being damaged
Label-Ergo Beam- this has a smooth surface and a 1/8” recessed web that prevents label damage.

The great thing about these commercial pallet rack beams is they provide such easy access to hard to reach cartons on lower shelf levels. This is because Ergo Beams create openings between pallet locations so an order picker can approach and comfortably reach the cartons in the rear.

This has reduced product breakage in virtually every business that has switched to using this type of pallet rack beam. Businesses are very happy due to the money this saves them on inventory replacement costs. In many ways, it has proven to be the best solution for warehouse workers because of the way it splits the front shelf beam into two separate curved beams that attach to the rear horizontal.

The opening this creates allows for plenty of room for order pickers to safely and efficiently access cartons in either the front or rear pallet with minimal risk of worker injury.

Finally, for companies whose operations consist of light loads with minimal risk of product damage or worker injury, one great way to save money is to invest in used pallet rack beams. Used Tear Drop beams can be bought that range anywhere from 51”-153” in length. Because they are used, there is no way to guarantee weight capacity, which is why we recommend they be used only when minimal risk to products and human safety are assured to begin with.

Metal Storage Shelving

Metal storage shelving brings efficiency, improved safety, and faster completion of tasks to factories and warehouses. Metal storage shelving is available in a wide range of steel wire gauges and design builds to accommodate both small storage areas and large, heavy duty warehouse environments. Investing in the right steel shelving system now can make the difference between meeting budget and going in the hole. Inefficient organization and slowdowns in production can quickly add up to costly overtime hours, lost contracts, or even worker injuries. Investing in metal storage shelves can also convert previously unnoticed space into usable storage areas that minimize the need for relocation and create a safer overall environment to operate in.

Closed Metal Shelving
Closed metal storage shelving is closed on the sides and the back and offers the security of a cabinet. Closed metal storage shelves can be folded together and locked for security, or they can be opened fast and placed against the wall, using the flat vertical service as brace. The sturdy steel construction makes it possible for these units to safely organize and support 450lbs of materials.

Closed Shelf units can be used in factories, storage areas, warehouse floors, and even office areas. Some companies convert shelves into storage bins by adding vertical sections. This is often done in assembly line environments where workers need access to small parts that are efficiently organized and easily retrievable. 10 gauge metal storage shelving is generally used in office environments and for light storage in back rooms. Heavier, 20 gauge steel closed shelves feature a standard 36 inch width and are available in a variety of height and length dimensions. Custom sizes can also be ordered through your Easy Rack material handling specialist.

Open Metal Storage Shelving
Open metal shelving offers two very important advantages to cramped facilities. Because they are often much taller than wide, they can be placed in narrow quarters and convert unused vertical space into storage rack space. Also, because they have not back or side panels, they can be accessed from any direction.

Although they may appear more fragile than closed backed units, 20 gauge open metal storage shelves are quite sturdy. They can easily handle up to 450 pounds in weight. 20 gauge steel shelves are ideal material handling tools to invest in if you need to reorganize and consolidate your storage areas. Smaller gauge steel units are available as well, ideal for parts storage, lighter materials and boxes, and even paperwork and office supplies for indoor storage environments.

Industrial-Strength Metal Storage Shelving
Wide span or long span metal shelving is commonly referred to as industrial strength steel shelving because it is designed to accommodate extremely heavy loads and large components. Some wide span units are so long they can convert an entire wall into efficient compartmentalized storage space. Long span shelving units can be purchased in sizes measuring up to 24-gauge and offer industrial clients a reliable method of storing motor parts, construction materials, and tools. Because they are corrosion resistant, they are also used for chemical storage as well.

Rivet Shelving
If you are storing very light weight materials and need a shelf that does not require additional braces and supports, rivet shelving will get the job done for a marginal cost. These shelves are the least expensive storage units we carry, and, like open shelving, allow you to access material from all sides and do not use braces that could obstruct storage access.

Mezzanine Metal Storage Shelving & Decking Systems
Mezzanine systems are intended to convert vertical cube space into multiple floors within a facility that is facing an imminent move due to space restrictions. They commonly increase storage areas in warehouses by as much as 150%. The investment in a mezzanine storage system is almost always less than that of a relocation, and the installation of these systems causes much less downtime than having to move and set up shop in an entirely new location.

Pallet Rack Metal Storage Shelving
Metal used pallet rack storage shelves have become standards in almost every warehouse and factory. This is because almost all raw materials and supplies are shipped on pallets, and pallet racks make it easy to simply store the pallets as they arrive than to break them down and store their contents individually. The man hours this saves companies is enormous, and can contribute significantly toward minimizing overhead and weekend catch-up work.
