Pallet Racks & Pallet Racking

We have considered freezing procurement due to possible global economic collapse. It is a good thing to be cautious, but reacting to the extreme on fear only makes the situation worse. Rather than freezing your budget, consider making one or two purchases that have intrinsic return on investment build into the purchase order.

Ok then, what types of purchases do you recommend?
If you can only make a single material handling purchase this quarter, buy a pallet racking system. Everything about a used pallet rack is designed for efficiency and process flow and in most cases eliminates the need to expand a warehouse or move into a larger facility at great expense.

How do pallet racks prevent the need to expand or move?
They convert floor space and vertical cube space into an organized storage area that can be accessed by workers and fork trucks. We cannot stress enough to our clients how important it is to avoid using floor space for storage that presents a hazard to workers and an obstacle to equipment. Getting stored materials off the floor and onto a pallet racking system will improve your safety rating and make it possible to manage your inventory more efficiently and accurately. When you know exactly what you have, where it is, and how to find, you can much more easily manage your books and avoid double purchasing and over purchasing supplies, components, and materials.

Should all inventories be kept on pallet racks?
We recommend you try to do this if at all possible. Not only can you control inventory better this way, but you can keep it in much better condition when you store it off the floor in a neat and organized manner. You will receive a return on this investment over time in the form of reduced replacement costs and shortened time involved in finding and retrieving materials. In this sense, a pallet rack is a time clockʼs best friend.

Do you custom build any pallet racks?
Yes. We custom build them all. There is nothing generic about our warehouse racking systems. Every new or used industrial racking system is a custom system build to meet the specific needs of our client. Used pallet racking will often save a company up to 40% and can be custom built from components we have access to through nationwide procurement channels. New pallet racks are also custom built.

What do we have to do to order a used or new pallet rack?
Call Easy Rack and provide your material handling account manager as much information about your industry, company, and warehouse as possible. Send blueprints or floor plans if you have them, and provide us with data such as square footage, ceiling height, the industry you work in, the type of materials you will be storing, and a general estimate of the size and weight of pallets can containers you will place on your racking. A knowledgeable heavy duty used pallet racking specialist will be gals to design a system for you.

We will use this information to do all the calculations for you and build you a system with the best support structure and weight capacitance for your unique storage system needs.

Industrial Shelving

Almost any balanced container, product, or item can be stored on an industrial shelf. Just as long as the object has a flat bottom, it will safely balance on the supporting shelf. Round containers can also be stored on industrial shelves provided they have a sufficient diameter on both ends that will allow the cylinder to rest securely on its end.

Used industrial shelves are available in all sizes, designs, and weight capacities. Light weight shelves are often used in offices. Medium duty and heavy duty models are used in warehousing, shipping/receiving, and automotive service industries. Industrial shelves tend to pay for themselves in a relatively short amount of time. By converting unused space into storage areas, they reduce the likelihood that an organization will have to spend money on relocation or an expansion. They also make it much easier for workers to access products and supplies and expedite process flow safely and efficiently.

Different industrial shelf systems are used for different types of environments. 18 gauge and 20 gauge closed back industrial shelves will easily support 400-450 lbs in weight and are commonly used for storing boxes in stockrooms. Smaller, open-backed shelves and other used commercial shelving are utilized used by office managers to store important documents, tax work, and office supplies. Larger industrial shelves can hold up to 2,000 pounds in weight and are used for medium level storage of heavier crates and machine parts.

When choosing industrial shelving units, keep three things in mind:
  1. The first thing to keep in mind is safety. When storing extremely heavy items and large containers, always invest in shelving whose weight capacity exceeds the total weight of items. Maxing out a brand new shelving system is never a good idea. A worker probably will not be aware of that a shelf already contains all it can handle and inadvertently add additional weight beyond safe limits.
  2. The second thing to keep in mind is accessibility. If workers need to retrieve items from the front of the shelf only, closed back industrial shelving offer a sturdy, cabinet like design build for stability and security (the units can be shut and locked at night if necessary). If the materials that are stored are not that sensitive, or if workers need to access them from any angle at will, open ended systems work well for this task.
  3. Keep perspective in mind as well. The dimensions of a shelf are not true indicators of the actual interior, usable storage space. To make certain every square cubic inch pays you back for your investment, talk to your material handling specialist about usable storage space, weight capacity, accessibility, and methods of ensuring the unit remains stable and secure in every conceivable scenario.
Easy Rack sells a full selection of small, mid-sized, and heavy duty steel industrial warehouse shelving systems. We sell both new equipment and used equipment, including long span units that can run along an entire warehouse wall. If cost is an issue, we recommend investing in used equipment. Used Pallet Racks

What benefits can we expect from used pallet racking?
Used pallet racks can save you up to 40% of the purchase cost of new pallet racks. For less money, you can experience the same structural stability, safety, and organizational benefits of pallet racking systems with less of a hit to your budget. Used pallet racks are equivalent in quality and performance to new systems.

What type of used pallet racking systems do you carry?
We can supply you with any standard model or arrange to have a custom pallet rack system built from used parts. Both standard and custom models can be obtained through your Easy Rack material handling specialist. We will provide you with the best system for your particular environment, terrain, indoor or outdoor conditions, and seismic quality of the floor or ground on which they are installed.

What type of used pallet rack do you sell the most?
Most of our clients prefer the teardrop pallet rack systems. Teardrop pallet racks are the industrial standard for most warehousing and manufacturing applications. They offer you a bolt less design that makes them easier to assemble and adjust. You will also have a more stable platform with less likelihood of buckling in the middle. Easy Rack teardrop systems are built heavy channel steel and supported by tensile steel columns to provide you with the safest and most reliable platform possible.

What is the difference between industrial and heavy duty used pallet racks?
There really is no difference between these terms. Heavy duty used pallet storage racks have metal shelving designed for high traffic and fork truck access. “Industrial” is sometimes used to refer to pallet racks with weight capacities of up to 48,000 pounds. They are constructed from structural steel and designed to withstand occasional fork truck collisions.

What type of pallet rack decking should be used?
Used wire decking is the most common type of decking used in industrial pallet racks. We can provide you with any of the three main forms of wire decking: waterfall, reverse waterfall, and lay-in decking. Fire codes are beginning to require wire decks because they offer no obstruction to fire suppression.

We can also provide you with wood decks can also be obtained by special request, but are not generally recommended due to the trend to use wire for fire codes. Heavy duty steel decking should be used for heavy duty industrial storage.

What are the best pallet racking systems?
Warehouse pallet rack systems and structural pallet racking systems normally meet the needs of almost all applications

Used warehouse pallet racks organize and store materials for organizations that anticipate growth or expansion. These systems are intended for adaptation and modification as workload and/or inventory increases. Warehouse pallet rack shelving helps convert your vertical cube and floor space into storage space, provide you with the best storage density within safety parameters, and facilitate either hand or fork truck access.

Used Structural Pallet Racks are extra sturdy, more stable, and more resistant to collisions than standard rolled pallet rack systems. Structural upright systems are available in a number of well-known, standard styles that include, but are not limited Inca, Sturdibilt, Steel King, Frazier, Arco, and Speedrack. Some pallet flow racking systems are designed for use exclusively indoors, while others can be used outdoors in construction or shipping areas.

Used Cantilever Racks

Used cantilever racks will often save your organization up to 40% off the purchase value of new cantilever racks. Lighter duty, pre-configured used cantilever racks can be located through any number or channels Easy Rack representatives have access to, and used cantilever arms and cantilever uprights that are needed to build medium and heavy duty cantilever shelving systems can also be obtained at similar price points and drop shipped immediately to your location or the location of your client.

Cantilever racks are needed by industrial facilities for two very important uses: storage of odd-sized and exceptionally long materials, and compact, efficient conversion of floor space to functional, secure storage space. Unlike mezzanine systems, pallet racks, and industrial shelving systems, cantilever racking uses a unique configuration of vertical uprights to support horizontal arms that cradle materials and products. The total amount of floor space used is significantly less than what is required for larger standard shelving, allowing you to use more cantilever shelving units per square foot than other forms of storage. For example, you can cost effectively order several used cantilever racks in our pre-configured, double-sided design and mount them side by side to extend horizontal storage space for extremely long products such as lumber, tubes, metal bars, rods, poles, and plumbing pipes. If you are thinking about moving to a larger, more expensive location, consider ordering some used cantilever racks to see if they could transform some of your unused rooms and corners into efficient, productive space with either pre-configured or heavy-duty, custom built used cantilever racking.

Through consolidation of your resources and the creation of a safer, less cluttered work environment no doubt will improve both your process flow and your employ morale. Workers will no longer have to use the floor to store materials like flake boards, marble, granite, wooden crates, dry wall, aluminum sheets, TV’s, stereos, appliances, or furniture. Each one of these items can be stored on a used cantilever system custom built for specific load and weight distribution requirements. Easy Rack can provide you with any size and number of vertical single sided uprights necessary to support even the largest and most cumbersome of objects. You can obtain used double sided cantilever rack arms of any length, load capacity, and cantilever arm design. Cantilever arms themselves either extend horizontally or angle upward slightly in a curve. The two different designs are to support two very general categories of products. Flat items, such as drywall and stone slabs, rest better on horizontal supports extending from the upright at a straight 90 degree angle. Cylindrical products, such as pipes, cylindrical containers, and barrels, require a “cradle” that will prevent their round surface from rolling off the rack.

Easy Rack only builds and supports new and used heavy duty cantilever racks that feature one style of arm or the other. Attempts to combine “flat” arms with “curved” arms is taking too may shortcuts and taking too many risks on creating instability. This is not something we can support. However, this does NOT mean you have to by a rack for each and every storage need you have. Each rack features a great deal of flexibility because uprights feature grooves that allow the arms to be moved up and down to different positions. This allows you to adjust settings and use the same cantilever rack to store many different types and sizes of materials, provided each storage load is similar enough to be loaded and stored with balance and stability.

Using cantilever racks with heavy duty cantilever arms can transform every square inch of what you thought was unusable floor space into a super-efficient organizational shelving system that makes inventory fast, easy, and amazingly accurate. You will find yourself having to authorize less needless overtime, and you will find fewer mistakes in tracking supplies that are now neatly compartmentalized rather than simply piled on the floor or stacked in the corner.

The best thing about all of this is the savings on top of the productivity. Used cantilever arms, vertical uprights, and pre-configured units are just as sturdy as new models, but they cost amazingly less. Ordering a used cantilever rack online is a simple, safe and secure procedure. Our Internet staff of shelving associates will find all necessary parts to fulfill functional and safety requirements before drop shipping either a complete cantilever rack or necessary components to your location or your client’s site.

Cantilever Shelving

Cantilever shelving both new and used will allow you to store any awkwardly proportion or especially long materials like tubing and pipe safely and conveniently. It is extremely valuable when it comes to converting unused floor space into functional storage space. Cantilever shelving also helps maintain a safer, less cluttered work environment. You will never again have use the floor to store dry wall, metal sheets, or pipes that create trip hazards and present obstructions to workers and fork trucks.

Another advantage you receive from cantilever shelves is the organizational improvements they can contribute to your process flow. With the correctly proportioned cantilever racks, any number of products that normally defy category and easy storage can be segregated and compartmentalized for quick inventory and retrieval on demand. The improvements this efficiency will make will prevent you from losing money on needless overtime and mistakes in inventory and stock selection. Although these returns on investment may at first appear at intangible and nebulous, they are nevertheless absolutely real and will over the course of time pay for the equipment itself.

Cantilever shelves differ considerably from traditional shelving systems and pallet racking systems. Instead than supporting a flat surface with a traditionally designed frame, cantilever shelves uses vertical uprights and adjustable arms that reach outward. Cantilever uprights and arms will either extend horizontally at a straight 90 degree angle to the upright, or they will angle slightly upward in order to cradle certain materials. Generally speaking, flat items like dry wall are stored on the horizontal arms, and longer, cylindrical materials are stored on arms that angle up to prevent roll off. Knowing which type of uprights and arms to use in your cantilever rack requires first deciding exactly what you plan to use it for. It also requires some calculation of weight load and distribution which either simple math or a phone call to an Easy Rack expert can help you quickly determine which used pallet racking system is good for you.

Because uprights and arms are sold individually, larger cantilever shelves are custom creations of our clients. They are reconfigured systems we have available that are designed for light and general storage needs. Details of these units can be obtained by clicking here, or by calling an Easy Rack representative for more information toll free at 888-776-3720.

If you are going to build your own custom shelving out of cantilever supports and arms, it is important to follow four general principles in determining exactly which items you will need to create a medium duty or heavy duty storage system for your warehouse or factory.

1. First, determine overall weight capacity for the system by dividing the total amount of weight you will store by the number of arms you plan to order. You must install enough arms to evenly divide individual proportions of the load that are equal to or less than the total weight capacitance of an individual cantilever shelving arm.

2. To determine the strength and number of uprights you will need, again divide your total weight by the projected number of vertical support to make sure that the divided weight is equal to or less than the total capacity of the piece. Never allow the weight on a single cantilever arm to exceed the weight capacity of a vertical upright. To do so would put stress on the entire system.

3. Also make sure that the depth of the load never exceeds the length of the cantilever arm. If it does, the cantilever arms are pulled forward and the shelving unit can potentially tip forward.

4. Finally, divide the total product length by the total number of arms, and then divide the product again by two. This determines the total overhang of your equipment on either side of each arm. Without the proper degree of overhang, the arms will be stressed or the cantilever shelf will become horizontally imbalanced.

If you do not have time to do all these shelving calculations, or if you simply do not like math, call us and let us do it for you. We specialize in building custom cantilever shelves for virtually any storage need. We design cantilever shelving systems according to precise load size and weight, and we ensure the correct allowance for vertical clearance. We will also recommend, when necessary, additional necessities such as guide rails and entrance guards that will protect equipment and material from damage.

Ordering cantilever racks online is a simple, safe and secure with Geotrust. Our Internet staff of shelving associates will not ship an order until it meets all functional and safety requirements mandated by principles of excellence and industry regulations.

Industrial Metal Shelving, Material Handling Equipment, Mezzanine Storage Systems & Pallet Racking New and Used from Easy Rack.

Easy Rack supplies virtually every form of industrial metal shelving in all shapes, sizes and models. Industrial shelving systems can be custom ordered new or acquired in good, slightly used condition. When you buy used shelving Easy Rack can save you hundreds of dollars on medium to large orders.

Easy Rack offers to industrial and commercial clients a nationwide distribution network that is able to quickly and efficiently ship material handling products. This shipping process includes the dispatching of professional installers onsite whose special skills not only setup metal shelving systems safely, but also configure those systems to make maximum use of horizontal and vertical storage space at your place of business.

Here are a few of the key features and benefits of industrial metal shelving:

Industrial-Steel-Shelving Units
Industrial steel shelving is another term commonly used for open-ended Wide span, or Long span industrial shelving. Long span design creates efficient, compartmentalized storage space out of floor space adjacent to any wall. Long span units are available in sizes of up to 24-gauge and provide excellent, reliable storage platforms for large pieces of equipment, motor parts, or construction materials. They are also very good for chemical storage because they have been especially designed for corrosion resistance.

Steel Warehouse Shelving
There are two primary categories of steel warehouse shelving: open and closed. Open metal shelving allows you to access materials from the side as well as from the front. These shelves are normally taller than wide and can serve as excellent tools for converting unused vertical space into storage area. Closed metal shelving offers the security and stability of cabinetry and can even be folded together like a book. Of course, these units are far better than cabinets or bookcases because their steel construction allows even the smallest units to easily support 450lbs of materials.

Rivet Shelving Units
Rivet shelving is the least expensive of our metal shelf categories, and it is ideal for companies on tight budgets. Rivet shelves allow you to access material from all sides and do not use braces that could obstruct storage access.

Mezzanine Shelving & Decking Systems
Mezzanine shelving systems can literally create floor space out of air space and increase storage area up to 150%. This type of metal shelving should be strongly considered if you are facing an upcoming move. Often mezzanines can create so much extra room they eliminate the need to spend money on relocation.

Pallet Rack Shelving
Just about all materials are shipped on pallets of some kind. As such, metal pallet rack shelves are standards in almost all modern warehouses and an absolute must for warehouses adjacent to a factory. They enable organizations to streamline process flow by keeping materials securely stored on pallets from the time of delivery all the way up till they are used in the manufacturing process.

Visit Easy Rack for Helpful Information on Commercial Lighting, Pallet Racking and Material Handling Industry Terms.

Knowing the right terminology, the right slang words and understanding the lingo of any industry, will give you a leg up on the competition and give you "The Power of Knowledge".

According to Wikipedi, the term knowledge is used to mean the confident understanding of a subject with the ability to use it for a specific purpose. At Easy Rack, we have that understanding of the material handling business, the pallet racking industry as well as the commercial lighting business and offer the following information as a courtesy to our customers.

The following are some of the valuable educational and interesting information you will find in our industry specific glossaries by visiting the Easy Rack:

Commercial Lighting & Parking Lot Lighting Terms
Commercial lighting includes both artificial light sources such as light fixtures and natural illumination of commercial warehouses from daylight. Artificial commercial lighting is designed in today's market for specific applications such as parking lot lighting, security lighting, warehouse lighting, loading dock lighting and commercial decorative lighting.

Here are a few common commercial lighting examples:

Ballast - A device used with an electric-discharge lamp to obtain the necessary circuit conditions (voltage, current, and waveform) for starting and operating; all commercial HID and fluorescent lighting fixtures require a ballast for proper operation.
Color Rendering Index (CRI) - This is a scientific measurement of the balance between the wavelengths making up any “white” light. This is an index from 0-100 measuring a light source’s ability to render color accurately. The lower the color temperature, the warmer or more yellow is the appearance. The higher the color temperature, the cooler or bluer is the appearance.
High Pressure Sodium - These HID bulbs contain a sodium gas and produce a yellow/orange light. They are very bright, and last up to 24,000 hours. They are not good for color rendering and are best used as security flood lighting fixtures.
Light Loss Factor (LLF) - A factor used in calculating illuminance after a given period of time and under given conditions. It takes into account temperature and voltage variations, dirt accumulation of luminaire, lamp depreciation, maintenance procedures and atmospheric conditions.

Material Handling & Logistical Terms
Bulk material handling systems are typically comprised of movable items of machinery such as ramps and conveyors, pallet stacker's, fork lifts, hand trucks, pallet trucks, gantry and jib cranes, drum handling and various loading dock equipment combined with storage facilities such as small businesses, commercial warehouses or shipyards.

Here are a few common material handling examples:

Carousel - Material Handling Equipment designed to bring product to picker so that the picker can remain stationed in a designated picking location without traveling. Ideally, order information is loaded or automatically transferred into the carousel system, and multiple orders are picked by multiple pickers at one time. Types of carousels include horizontal and vertical.
Dock Leveler - A plate at the dock door entrance that raised and lowered either manually or hydraulically to accommodate trailer floor heights. Dock levelers come in many shapes, weight categories ans sizes.
Hand Truck - Western hand truck is a device used to transport goods manually with wheels within the side rails. The Eastern hand-truck is similar except the wheels are outside the side rails. Easy Rack has a wide selection of steel and aluminum hand trucks and ergonomic carts.
Pallet Jack - Material handling equipment consisting of pallet forks on small wheels that are used in the warehouse to move cases of product. Standard, all terrain and big wheel pallet trucks are available from Easy Rack.

Wooden Pallet & Pallet Racking Terms
A wooden, pallet sometimes called a skid, is a flat transport structure that supports goods in a stable fashion while being lifted by a forklift, pallet jack, or other jacking device. A pallet is the foundation of a unit load design, which can be as simple as placing any type of goods on a pallet and securing them with either metal strapping or stretch-wrapped plastic film.

Here are a few common wooden pallet examples:

National Wooden Pallet and Container Association - A national association with the goal of promoting the design, manufacturer, distribution, recycling and sale of pallets, containers and reels.
Pallet Jack - A hand-propelled, wheeled platform, equipped with a lifting device for moving palletized unit loads.
Shipping Pallet - A wooden or plastic pallet designed to be used for a single one-way trip from shipper to receiver that is disposed of after use.

Easy Rack began with the vision of solving the problems of overhead that result from time delays, insufficient space, and facilities outgrown by business expansion. Many companies try to make do with older, outdated tools, or they feel that they must conserve their procurement budgets until the last minute. This often slows down workers, and can result in certain instances in worker injuries, worker compensation claims, and potential liabilities for companies. Often, at other times, companies feel compelled to move once they determine they have outgrown their facilities. This, of course, costs a tremendous amount of money, and it also results in production downtime.

Give us a call toll free at 888-776-3720 for advice, a quote or just to talk about the material handling business! There is an easier way to save space, time, and money with the help of Easy Rack.

Easy Rack is one of the largest suppliers of new and used pallet racks, including the innovative pallet flow racking system.

What is new in pallet racking material handling equipment?
Pallet flow racks are one of the latest innovations in bulk storage metal racks. These pallet flow systems offer a number of advantages over conventional pallet racks, and are being installed in an ever increasing number of warehouses thanks to the increased efficiency and space saving factors that they offer to owners.

What makes pallet flow systems so unique over standard pallet racks?
While conventional pallet racking systems require strict stock control to ensure that the oldest stock is used ahead of newer acquisitions, this whole system is built into the construction of a pallet flow rack, and you will automatically rotate your stock. Unlike long bar pigeon hole racks, your stock is easy and continually rotated with pallet flow racking equipment.

How are pallet flow racks constructed and how do they work?
The actual construction of a Easy Rack pallet flow rack system is a fairly radical deviation from conventional static shelving, and while it requires a higher cost of installation and purchase over other options, it provides a number of benefits in terms of the space saving and better stock control that it offers as standard.

Essentially, in a pallet flow rack bulk storage system, pallets are loaded and unloaded the end of the racks rather than along the side. Instead of standard mesh shelving, a system of braked rollers along a gentle incline is used. Once pallets are loaded on one end of the rack, they begin sliding along to the other end where they fill up the storage area. The oldest items are always next in line to be unloaded, and this ensures that stock is not wasted and new articles are always next in line.

A system of air hoses can raise the shelving storage racks up at one end to allow it to roll along the shelf until it gets into the desired location for storage. Once the item is in place, the beams are lowered to a rest position so that the pallet remains in place. The wheels that the loads roll along are contained within the beam, and require minimal maintenance, keeping running costs for the pallet flow rack system as low as possible.

Where can I purchase pallet flow rack systems online?

For safety, all heavy duty pallet racks and shelving are fully inspected before the installation of the used pallet rack takes place. This ensures that any defective parts are not used, and maintains the overall integrity of the whole system to create storage space that is completely safe.

As with any industrial shelving, you will need to make sure that all the components are fitted properly, and bolted securely into place. This will create a much stronger tear drop pallet racks that will be able to withstand the considerable weight of all the materials that are going to be placed on the racks. Pay particular attention to the main load bearing areas where the ends of the horizontal beams are bolted to the uprights, as these are the points most likely to fail.

Maximize storage space in your warehouse with drive through pallet racks from Easy Rack

Are you quickly running out of space in your warehouse?
One of the best ways of maximizing storage space within your warehouse is by implementing a system of drive through pallet racks available from Easy Rack. These drive through pallet racks are a great way to boost storage capacity without chewing up valuable floor space.

What are the drawbacks of a traditional storage system?
Traditional racking systems require large amounts of floor space for fork lifts to navigate between racks. These so called "fork lift alleys" typically are wider than a standard rack itself, which translates into less storage and more aisles. By replacing conventional rack systems and using Easy Rack drive through pallet racks, you can maximize available space and increase storage capacity.
How does a drive thru pallet racking system work anyway?
A drive through pallet rack system involves storing the pallets in a consolidated area. Instead of having fork lift aisles between the pallet racks, they are arranged against each other, and are then removed one at a time as required. While there are a number of disadvantages to this material handling solution, it represents the absolute best way of maximizing the use of warehouse space, and should definitely be considered by any business for whom limited room could present a hurdle to expansion.

What is the main disadvantage to drive thru pallet racking?
The main disadvantage of a drive through pallet racking is that only the perimeter pallets can be accessed at any time. This means that if your staff need to get access to materials that are stored in the middle, they will need to shuffle other pallets first. When considering whether to implement a material handling solution in your workplace, it is important to decide whether what impact it will have on being able to select different items on demand is more important than the space saving benefits that it will produce versus efficiency costs.

How do I learn more about drive through pallet racking equipment and installation?
Easy Rack, a Nationwide supplier of material handling equipment can answer most of your questions. The pallet rack installers at Easy Rack are friendly, knowledgeable and ready to earn your business. Want to talk to a real person? Contact Easy Rack today at 281-342-0200.
