Getting a drum heated up to the correct temperature for the liquid contained in it to reach he optimum working temperature can be a frustrating wait that seems to take a long time, but with the latest range of high power and high efficiency oil drum heaters available, you will be able to get liquids up to temperature a lot quicker, allowing staff to start work a lot faster, and cut a lot of the dead time out of many different production processes.

Liquids such as pitch and many glues are a solid at the normal working temperatures in most industrial units and factories, and must be heated for significant periods of time so that they can be used for painting onto surfaces, or for the most efficient application.  This is typically achieved by wrapping a regular oil drum heater around the 55 gallon barrel, and switching it on.  A set of heating elements placed evenly around the outside skin of the drum transmit heat onto the metal surface, and this in turn passes the heat through to the liquid being stored in the drum, and gets it up to temperature.

Most oil drum heaters that are available for industrial use are designed to be powered by a mains supply of electricity so that they provide heat without a naked flame.

One of the main safety considerations that needs to be taken into account when using oil drum heaters is to ensure that there are no volatile or flammable vapors released by the chemicals that you are heating, as even though the heat is provided by an electric element, rather than a flame, it can still get hot enough to set fire to a particularly flammable or volatile chemical.  The drum heaters are also thermostatically controlled to provide heat up to a pre set temperature, and will maintain the minimum power to keep the barrel at the desired heat level.  This keeps costs of using the heaters as low as possible.

Certain safety measures that are built into the design of the heaters are intended to minimize the risk of accidental fires.  The heating elements do not come into contact with the drum they are being used to heat, and the shielding unit that encloses the drum within the oil drum heater is designed for efficiency to let as little heat escape as possible.  This seal also works to prevent any other chemicals entering the area – although damage to the drum can compromise this seal to a certain extent, and care should still be taken.

The efficiency with which oil drum heaters are able to raise the temperature of standard 55 gallon barrels means that after a relatively short time, work can continue as usual, increasing the levels of productivity in the workplace.  Having the chemicals and liquids that you are using at the correct working temperature ensures that they are used much more efficiently too, and this reduces the amounts of waste that any process produces, and in turn positively effects the cost of operations and increases profit margins.
