For many businesses, the primary concern when creating storage area is keeping the cost down.  Thankfully, it is more than possible to install a complete pallet storage solution within your warehouse at a much lower cost than previously thanks to the range of used pallet racking available.  The storage area for your business may not be the most profitable area of your business, but rather than skimping on it, and settling for a sub standard place that can cause problems in the long run, by choosing a used pallet rack system, you will be able to get all the benefits of a brand new system at a much lower cost.

The installation process for used pallet racks is much the same as that for new equipment, however it is even more important to plan out the storage area, as components need to be matched up with other items from their set – used pallet racking systems can differ slightly from one year to the next, and while every effort is made to ensure that all items are one hundred per cent compatible, it is possible that there may be some components that are slightly different in size.

For safety, all items are fully inspected before the installation of the used pallet rack takes place.  This ensures that any defective parts are not used, and maintains the overall integrity of the whole system to create storage space that is completely safe. 

Planning the area where you are going to place your used pallet racking is important.  Factors like the gaps that you leave for fork lift access and the overall height of the units need to be decided before construction begins, as once the first upright columns are bolted into place, the layout will be more or less fixed.

As with any industrial shelving, you will need to make sure that all the components are fitted properly, and bolted securely into place.  This will create a much stronger structure that will be able to withstand the considerable weight of all the materials that are going to be placed on the racks.  Pay particular attention to the main load bearing areas where the ends of the horizontal beams are bolted to the uprights, as these are the points most likely to fail. 

Throughout the construction process as you install your used pallet racking in the warehouse, ensuring that the shelves are completely flat, and the columns perfectly vertical is absolutely essential.  The whole strength of the units is governed by the load being held properly, and until all the different shelves and beams have been tested, it is unwise to load them with any weight.

Once the used pallet racks have been installed and completely checked to ensure that they are ready for use, they can be used straight away.  There is no need to wait for anything to settle or to dry out – using bolts to connect the beams together means that they are fixed from the moment the nut is tightened.
