When you want to provide a reliable source of light, then a wall pack is often the best way of doing this in a cost effective and simple manner.  Thanks to the simplicity of the system, which just needs to be mounted high up on an external wall in a position where it can be best able to supply light over as wide an area as possible.  These lights provide one of the most cost effective options available for providing extra light in a manner that produces the minimal amount of disturbance to the surrounding area.

You tend to see wall packs on almost any commercial building where light is needed.  They are a common sight around car parks, and while they are not the most aesthetically pleasing light source available on the market, they offer excellent levels of efficiency and provide a completely reliable source of light that has a longer lifespan and requires less maintenance than a conventional spot light.

The Wall pack is a compact all in one light source that uses a cast aluminum housing all of the mounting equipment, the lap, and the power cabling.  It is typically mounted around 12 to 18 feet above the ground in a position where it faces downwards.  The lap creates a large area of light using a choice of different bulbs including the most popular models such as a 175 watt metal halide bulb, or an alternative 400 watt high pressure sodium lamp, which creates a much brighter area of light.  There are also a number of different alternative light sources available from 30watt low intensity bulbs through to the most powerful halogen lamps in order to ensure that your exact needs from low cost through to maximum illuminations are available.

In many states, there are now dark sky regulations that limit the use of lamps that create an uplighting effect, and one of the best ways of avoiding this problem and fulfilling your legal requirements, whilst also providing the right levels of illumination to guarantee safety and security for staff close to the building is to install wall packs where necessary around the exterior of the building.  The wall packs incorporate forward throw optics to ensure that the majority of the beam is directed into a single area.

By spacing the lamps between 24 and 36 feet apart – depending on the height they have been mounted at, an excellent field of consistent light across a large area can be created.  This will ensure that the lighting is of a high quality without causing excessive upward lighting in contravention of the responsibilities that are set out in the dark skies regulations.
