Truck Loading Ramps
Many sites lack a permanent dock and require another method of loading up truck trailers. Truck loading ramps are one way to get the job done. They make it easy and safe to load products into a truck no matter how remote the location is. Construction crews especially value truck loading ramps for their ability to load and materials and supplies for building. Because they function exactly like concrete loading ramps on permanent docks, truck loading ramps are able to support forklifts traffic and workers on foot with pallet jacks.
Various sizes of truck loading ramps exist for a wide range of applications. The most commonly sold sizes are the 30’ models and 36’ models. Both include a six foot level off that allows safe and efficient access to the trailer bed. Other widths and weight exist for specialized applications. Truck loading ramps are normally made from either steel or aluminum, although some are made with aluminum frames and have steel grates. Each of these materials offers specific advantages for certain applications. Other factor such as necessary weight capacity and the amount of portability play a role in choosing steel, aluminum, or blended steel and aluminum ramp. A specialist should always be consulted to assist in making these determinations prior to finalizing an order.
Steel Truck Loading Ramps
Truck loading ramps made from steel can service a range from 45” to 62” and are operated by a 2 speed hand crank. These ramps can handle anywhere from 15,000lbs to 30,000lbs in weight. Both 30’ and 36’ lengths are available, with a number of built in safety features that include positive steel traction grating, 4” high safety curbs, safety lock chains, rubber bumpers, a 15” overlap lip, and optional welded hand rails.
Aluminum Truck Loading Ramps
Aluminum truck loading ramps are also available in either 30ft straight incline or 36ft. incline with 6ft. level off. Weight capacities range from 16,000 lbs to 30,000 lbs. These are simple and safe units to use thanks to a number of advantageous features. A single person can adjust the height with a hydraulic hand pump. The ramp is stabilized by rubber shock absorbers. Forklifts can move the ramp around the shipping yard by hooking up to an optional tow bar that can be ordered with the unit. Safety anchor chains are included with every aluminum ramp, and custom sized steel grating can be fitted to the ramp if necessary.
Mobility
Truck loading ramps can be fitted with any number of tire types, including pneumatic tires. Tires expand the service range of the unit from 40” to 66” and can be fitted to either steel or aluminum ramps. OSHA and ANSI standards require all loading ramps to be attached to the truck with bolt locking chains before use. They can also be fitted with toe bars so that fork trucks can move them. In some instances, other accessories may need to be added to the ramp to allow a variety of vehicles to move it around the yard. These include loading dock levelers, towbar hitches, loops, and forklift pickup slots that an Easy Rack specialist can have installed upon request.
