Drum Cones

Drum cones allow you to precisely control the pouring of dry materials from your drum. They replace the actual drum lid and turn the entire drum itself into an accurate pouring instrument. Drum cones normally fasten to the sides of drums with a clamp collar, which you can obtain from Easy Rack in either Carbon Steel or Type 304 Stainless Steel. Either a slide gate or an iris valve functions as a variable aperture through which the drum contents can be measured and poured. This allows you to better control the pour, and it also extends the reach of the pour by up to 15.5”. When you need to reach beyond obstructions at the receiving container, a drum cone may be the only means you have of safely transferring drum contents.

In addition to more precise and easy pouring, drum cones offer a number of advantages as well. They will greatly reduce dust on the floor when discharging dry material. This helps minimize slip hazards (because dust can and will make a floor slippery) and less man hours spent on cleanup. Slide gates open and close so quickly that drum contents can be immediately dispensed and the pouring immediately stopped. This minimizes waste and makes measurement-oriented tasks much more precise. Any size drum can be fitted with one of these cones. We have cones for open-headed steel drums and for fiber headed drums. The angle of the drum cone is variable as well. You can choose between a 45 degree angle or a 60 degree angle to the 6” discharge opening. If you have special-sized drums in diameters 15-7/8” to 23-3/8”, you can also obtain drum cones in these cylinder sizes as well.

We strongly recommend that if you use a drum cone with a slide gate when you are pouring powdered material. Coarse granulated products are better poured through an Iris gate. The iris gate is made from a flexible sleeve and a handle that revolves around the sleeve to open and close it for use. The iris gate is made to be used with products that have up to 60lbs. per 3ft of density. Anything at or below this range can be safely poured without clogging the sleeve.

You can also order specialty drum cones. Units are available with a valve flange that will attach to the valve of your choice. Other drum cones can be obtained that feature no valve or slide gate and are simply 6” spouts that make pouring quicker and easier. Ask one of our experts about the style and diameter most suited to your drum pouring requirements and material handling process flow. Be certain to specify the outside diameter of the drum top, not the inside, when placing your order. For the most accurate measurements, remove the drum lid and take multiple measurements across the rim, then average the measurements.
