Concrete Bollards Provide The Ultimate In Pedestrian Safety & Traffic Control.

When are concrete bollards needed?
In areas where very large forklifts, trucks, or service vehicles are passing through an area, a standard metal bollard may not provide sufficient resistance against an impact to fully stop its collision. A lightweight bollard will often bend or break out of its base if hit with sufficient force. This destroys both the bollard and whatever the bollard was protecting, and the costs of this loss can easily mount into the thousands of dollars from ruined material and possible liabilities resulting from spillage of hazardous chemicals.

How do concrete bollards work?
They are fixed into the concrete itself and can be filled with concrete to provide a heavier, more durable protective barrier against collision. Bollards made for concrete infill are hollow on the inside and are longer than their standard equivalents. The extra length allows you to fix them into a concrete floor without sacrificing the necessary height to form an effective barrier. The hollow interior allows you to fill the bollard with concrete to increase its strength and durability against impact.

What sizes are available?
Pour in place bollards range in usable height from 24” to 48” and weigh between 44 and 88 pounds.

Can we install concrete bollards ourselves?
Yes. Concrete bollards are made with welded anchoring tabs that allow you to accurately align and fix the bollard into a concrete floor or parking area. The process itself is simple, but time consuming. For those able to coordinate their own self-installation, welded anchoring tabs that allow you to accurately position and align the bollard in a concrete base. The bollard caps are removable to allow for convenient concrete infilling.

The process is simple enough, but it can be time consuming based upon the size of your pour in place bollards and where you intend on positioning them. Steel Safety Bollards are the best general model to use in and around a facility. Manufactured with welded steel construction, each unit is powder coated with safety yellow finish. Molded rubber bollard caps are removable on 4½" and 5½" diameter units to allow for concrete infill. Steel caps are welded on the 1¾" diameter units.

Each base plate measures 8" x 8", on the 4.5 and 5.5 units (5" x 5" on the 1¾" units), and includes four pre-drilled mounting holes. Easy rack supplies mounting kits and replacement bollard caps when needed.

Do you have anything other than yellow bollards?
Yes, Easy Rack carries chrome-plated bollards for decorative needs. Chrome is a highly attractive metal on anything, including a bollard. Chrome-plated bollards will improve the image of your facility and at the same time protect people and equipment. Every unit is made of steel and finished with attractive bright chrome plating for a clean fresh look. A black plastic bollard cap or cover is removable to fill the pipe with concrete for greater strength and stability.

What is the most effective bollard for safety in hazardous areas?
Spring-loaded metal bollards provide maximum safety and protection. They are designed to serve as a visual and audible warning to personnel. They feature a unique spring-loaded bollard design will bend and not break like rigid bollards. This works to prevent damage to the bollard and to any equipment that may hit it.

Spring-loaded metal bollards can also be ordered with optional light/siren. The light/siren unit includes sensitive switches that will activate a strobe light and warning siren when contacted. Each unite features a 1 ¼” diameter opening in the side of the post near the top for cigarette butt disposal. A removable top allows for the bollard to be periodically emptied. The top is lockable with a padlock to prevent unauthorized tampering and/or vandalism.

Folding bollards allow outdoor traffic areas to be closed to vehicles when the post is locked in the vertical position. When the way is clear, the bollard can be lowered to the ground to allow material handling equipment to roll safely over its surface.

This offers an excellent and very valuable safety feature for docks and loading ramps where people are working in the entranceway and vehicle traffic has to be temporarily stopped until they have completed their worked and cleared the way.
