Oil
filter crushers do far more for a facility than people assume at face
value. One might think that a
machine that crushes a can is basically nothing more than a rudimentary tool of
destruction and elimination. On an
operational level this might be true, but beyond the face value of their
performance, they offer some very tangible and financially lucrative benefits
for the companies who are smart enough to invest in them.

Let’s
begin with the most obvious of these benefits—consolidation of storage space—
and think through just how it adds value to an operation. We at Easy Rack talk a lot about
saving on storage space with our custom pallet racking solutions. There are many other ways to reduce
wasted space, however, aside from shelving and racking. Getting rid of disposable materials that
clutter corners and sections of the floor is a very practical way of immediately
freeing up areas that are previously unusable because of trash that workers have
not had a chance to take out for the day.
Common sense tells us that crushed filters take up far less room in
storage areas and pose much less of a trip hazard.
Another
benefit one can expect from these devices is a reduction in disposal costs. Government regulations classify used
filters as a form of hazardous waste.
There are always expensive fees attached to disposing of anything
classified as hazardous waste. When
filters contain traces of residual oil, there are penalty costs attached. Oil filter crushers drain this excess
oil prior to disposal, eliminating penalty costs in the process.
Another benefit that oil filter crushers bring
to your warehouse is an improvement in facility safety. By draining filters, you can eliminate
oil spillage which can cause severe slip and fall hazards in your facility. These devices are designed not only to
flatten the filters, but also to capture and contain the excess oil so there
will be no risk of worker injury in and around the places where crushed filters
are subsequently stored.
Consider as well how oil filter crushers can benefit the environment
in general. Let’s face it—all
companies are now being pressured by both the government and public opinion to
be more environmentally conscious.
Some companies have even improved their profit margins substantially by
proving their environmental consciousness to their customer base and the public
in general. Showing the world that
you have taken proactive steps in ridding the environment of a toxic and
hazardous substance will go a long way toward improving your corporate
image. If you are in a vertical
market where this may not be of direct financial benefit, also consider that
avoiding penalties that can be imposed for environmental contamination will save
you money you would otherwise lose.
Oil
filter crushers are safe and economical to operate. Most run on shop air by means of a
pneumatic pump. The absence of a
motor saves on maintenance costs and electrical power costs. For some applications a powered unit may
be necessary, however. In these
instances, Easy Rack has units that operate on electric-hydraulic power. Crushing force ranges between 13,000 lbs
for smaller units all the way up to 37,500 pounds for units designed to crush
55-gallon drums. Ask our team which
model will best meet your waste disposal needs.
