Drum Carriers, Handlers & Movers.
If you need to move single drums around the workplace, and need a cost effective but robust cart, then one of Easy Rack’s range of drum carriers is the best option. Offering enough capacity to lift most 55 gallon drums, and designed to make carrying drums as safe and secure as possible, these handy carts will come in very handy no matter what kind of materials you have stored in your drums.
Drum carriers are designed to be as simple as possible, with no unnecessary frills added to the design, and a number of slightly different models available, you will find it easy to get the exact model that meets your needs without having to pay over the odds for equipment or specifications that you simply do not need, and would not make any reasonable use of.
Drum carriers are specifically designed to carry full 55 gallon drums, but because of the way in which the drum is positioned at an angle when the cart is in motion, they should not be used when volatile or harmful chemicals are stored in the drum, as this could result in an accidental spill taking place, and cause injury. They are simple to use, and easy to maintain, making them the ideal budget choice to fill a need.
The basic design of the drum carrier includes a small platform that slides under the bottom of the drum, and a high vertical section that terminates in the handles to support the drum when it is tilted back. The handles are designed to be ergonomic and comfortable, without being slippery, and there are large wheels on either side of the unit that are used as both the pivot when the carrier is moved into position, and also for moving.
In order to prevent the drum from toppling off either sideways or forwards when the drum carrier comes to a halt, a strap can be attached to the vertical part of the trolley in order to hold the drum securely in position without making it too difficult to unload at the other end.
You can choose between heavy duty 12 inch by 2 inch steel wheels with either a polyurethane or rubber tire over them, or opt for the slightly lighter weight offered by composite poly wheels. The capacity of the drum carrier of 800lb is unaffected by which wheels you choose, and the decision is generally made based on the kind of flooring that your particular facility has. In general, steel with rubber tires provides the most comfortable ride, although if you use a lot of oil based solvents, the tires can be damaged by running through liquids, and you should consider polyurethane tires instead for your drum carrier.
Whichever model of drum carrier you choose, you will benefit from it being designed to last, with hard wearing axles, a thick powder coating to protect the underlying metal, and a simplicity and economy of design that makes it unlikely that anything will ever go wrong with the unit in normal use, meaning that with regular maintenance, your drum carrier should last you for many years.
