  Pallet Rack Systems
A pallet rack system is material mass storage units designed to house, organizes and retrieve palletized products. Pallet rack systems can either be housed within a warehouse, or they can be built specifically for outdoor storage use. There are many different design styles as well, each specifically engineered for different storage environments and content requirements.
Although the styles and sizes of pallet racks systems can vary widely, all systems are built using three basic component types: uprights, beams, and wire decking. The sizes, strengths, and configurations of these basic components ultimately determine the build, structure, and function of the pallet rack they are used to construct.
Uprights
Upright frames are large vertical pieces that create the structural frame of the pallet rack. They determine how tall and how deep your storage system will be. Every upright has two tall beams and all necessary components that connect them together. Frame sizes can be anywhere from 72" to 192" high. Some custom racking is even larger. The depths of pallet racks will range anywhere from 36" to 48". Each system requires two pairs of upright frames. Very large operations with extremely heavy load requirements may need multiple upright frames to form long rows.
Beams
Beams are the horizontal pieces that affix to the vertical frames formed by the uprights. Easy Rack beams are safe and easy to install. Intended to be both cost-effective and versatile; adjustable beam pallet storage systems are some of the most popular racks because they allow workers to directly access each pallet stored on the rack. Systems can be built using any number of beam sizes and duties. When these capacities are properly calculated in relation to upright capacities, pallet rack systems can be built to meet the precise criteria of specific applications, accessibility considerations, handling requirements, weight load, and space management. Wire Decking
Not all pallet rack systems use wire deck, but it is increasingly becoming the preferred form of decking in many storage environments. This is because increasingly strict fire codes require that structures allow sprinkler water to fall freely from the ceiling to the floor—something that solid steel and wooden decking cannot do. While it will not hold as much weight as steel decking, and by no means is ever safe to walk or stand on, most general storage applications can be adequately met with wire decking. The cost benefits of reducing product damage and minimizing potential fire damage represent incalculable—yet nevertheless very real—returns on investment. A number of custom-sizes are available; along with wire decking that is electro-galvanized for rust resistance.
There are many different pallet rack system design styles, each of which offers its own unique features, advantages, and benefits to specific storage environments and material handling applications.
The most popular pallet rack system is the teardrop design, which has become virtually an industry standard in most warehousing environments. This design is very versatile. It features a standardized “teardrop” connection design that makes the uprights and crossbeam interchangeable between different manufacturers. It also features a boltless assembly that simplifies reconfiguration of beam levels.
Structural pallet rack systems are the heavy duty alternative to teardrop pallet racks. These units are normally bolted together. Very large structural rack is sometimes actually built into the structure of a warehouse itself for maximum utilization of floor and vertical cube space.
