Definition
A skid steer broom is basically a rotating broom that attaches to the front of a skid steer. It is used to remove various forms of debris from streets, sidewalks, roadways, driveways, and industrial areas.
Challenges it Resolves
There are many forms of debris that create obstructions, eyesores, and safety hazards. During times of heavy rain, mud forms in puddles and dries on paved surfaces. Dirt blows with the wind in dry parts of the country, creating piles of earth that make transit areas uncomfortable and unsafe to walk on.
In a work environment, this slows down process flow and often results in unsafe conditions for workers. Perhaps one of the biggest and most inconvenient forms of obstructions is snow. We think of big piles of snow as being problematic. However the light snow that a significant portion of the country experiences on a regular basis can be even more dangerous.
What looks like only a little bit of snow on the ground is enough to cause slips, falls, vehicle accidents, and more than enough to grind industrial production to a halt.
Clearing such obstructions with manual tools is laborious and time consuming. A skid steer broom with manual angle is far more effective for removing obstructing debris. It is also far less time consuming and much safer to operate when used correctly per industry standard procedures.
Features at a Glance
This versatile skid steer loader attachment is essentially a hydraulically driven rotating broom that attaches to the end of a skid steer. As the vehicle moves forward, the broom turns and pushes any obstructing debris away from the loader.
The skid steer broom is also bi-directional. It can be adjusted up to 30 degrees to either the left or to the right. This allows debris displacement to be precisely controlled. The sweeper also features a built in stand that allows it to be stored with the bristles off the ground. Storage is easier, and sweepers can be changed more easily with this feature.
A nylon sleeve protects hoses from abrasion. There are no chains or sprockets used in device either. The skid steer sweeper operates on a direct drive motor that raises and lowers the broom. A universal mounting plate makes it compatible for all full-sized, modern loaders.
Applications and Benefits
The skid steer broom can be used for a multitude of industrial and municipal applications. Perhaps its most common use is in construction cleanup as a debris removal tool that is used to sweep obstructions away from areas around new buildings. This is vital to maintaining a safe, orderly process flow essential to completing projects on schedule.
Warehouses also use the skid steer sweeper to keep areas in front of docks free from debris that can impede or damage trucks coming into the dock to load or unload supplies.
Many industrial facilities that experiences snow fall in the winter will use skid steer brooms to clear out parking lots and sidewalks. Municipalities also use them for clearing off sidewalks and rotundas that snowplows have trouble reaching.
