Carousels
Carousels are highly utilitarian tools that ergonomically protect worker safety while simultaneously protecting equipment. They represent a very sound investment for any company whose personnel routinely work around scissor lifts, workbenches, or designated workspaces on the warehouse floor. Carousels help minimize worker fatigue, allowing them to work more efficiently for longer periods of time. Because of their ability to maneuver supplies using centrifugal rotation, carousels also eliminate the need for workers to lift supplies and twist their backs. This reduces the risk of back and shoulder injury and keeps products on a stable surface at all times where they are least likely to suffer breakage or damage.
Carousels work by rotating materials up to 360 degrees with the assistance of an operator. They can be positioned on top of virtually any surface, such as scissor tables and workbenches, or even laid upon the floor. Once supplies or products are placed on the carousel, all a worker has to do is apply slight pressure in the desired direction and let centrifugal force—not the human back or shoulders—do the strenuous work.
Standard carousel construction consists of two pieces of rolled structural angle. Roller bearings within the device transfer the load smoothly and evenly distribute the weight across the supporting surface. There are four guide rollers within the carousel that keep the rings aligned and prevent the unit from locking up.
Standard carousels can maneuver up to 6,000 lbs of weight and are ideal in situations where the load is not odd-sized or exceptionally wide. A number of options are available to customize these devices such as elevated bases, stainless steel rings, manual brake, and a hand operated locking detent that Easy Rack will special install at the factory.
For large and odd sized loads, distributors and manufacturers might want to consider investing in a heavy-duty king pin carousel. This unit features all the ergonomic benefits of the standard carousel with a top plate and stabilizing center pin. The key added value is it will handle a wider variety of loads. Many facilities that ship and receive a wide range of different types and sizes of products prefer these units because they offer something akin to a one-sized fits all tool for maneuverable, material handling.
The features of each unit include 1/4" tread plate top on 4,000 lbs. and 3/8" tread plate top on 6,000 lbs. models. The Heavy-Duty King Pin also includes a heavy-duty maintenance free bearing. It allows for off set loading up to 50% of the capacity on at least 50% of the deck. Standard top plates are square with rounded corners. Contact factory for special sizes.
The Low-Profile unit features a heavy-duty steel non-skid tread plate platform 48" in diameter. This unit handles loads up to 4,000 lbs and stands only 2-3/8" tall. Easily accessible from a fork truck, it includes an optional approach ramp required for pallet truck use. The optional approach ramp measures 48" wide by 36" long. This device also features a foot control operation with a variable speed control, cushion start/stop, and rugged 3⁄4 HP motor with chain drive standard.
A Manual Air Bearing unit is also available. Contact Easy Rack for specifications and to place a custom order.
Easily rotate pallets, skids and other large objects with these rugged powered carousels. Each unit includes a 48" diameter round smooth turntable. Each turntable is supported with inverted casters for use as bearings. Units are complete with turntable, base, 115V single-phase power unit and variable-speed control, and the turntable is operated with a foot control. Heavy-duty steel construction and painted finish ensure years of reliable service.
