Drum Cones

Drum cones allow you to precisely control the pouring of dry materials from your drum. They replace the actual drum lid and turn the entire drum itself into an accurate pouring instrument. Drum cones normally fasten to the sides of drums with a clamp collar, which you can obtain from Easy Rack in either Carbon Steel or Type 304 Stainless Steel. Either a slide gate or an iris valve functions as a variable aperture through which the drum contents can be measured and poured. This allows you to better control the pour, and it also extends the reach of the pour by up to 15.5”. When you need to reach beyond obstructions at the receiving container, a drum cone may be the only means you have of safely transferring drum contents.

In addition to more precise and easy pouring, drum cones offer a number of advantages as well. They will greatly reduce dust on the floor when discharging dry material. This helps minimize slip hazards (because dust can and will make a floor slippery) and less man hours spent on cleanup. Slide gates open and close so quickly that drum contents can be immediately dispensed and the pouring immediately stopped. This minimizes waste and makes measurement-oriented tasks much more precise. Any size drum can be fitted with one of these cones. We have cones for open-headed steel drums and for fiber headed drums. The angle of the drum cone is variable as well. You can choose between a 45 degree angle or a 60 degree angle to the 6” discharge opening. If you have special-sized drums in diameters 15-7/8” to 23-3/8”, you can also obtain drum cones in these cylinder sizes as well.

We strongly recommend that if you use a drum cone with a slide gate when you are pouring powdered material. Coarse granulated products are better poured through an Iris gate. The iris gate is made from a flexible sleeve and a handle that revolves around the sleeve to open and close it for use. The iris gate is made to be used with products that have up to 60lbs. per 3ft of density. Anything at or below this range can be safely poured without clogging the sleeve.

You can also order specialty drum cones. Units are available with a valve flange that will attach to the valve of your choice. Other drum cones can be obtained that feature no valve or slide gate and are simply 6” spouts that make pouring quicker and easier. Ask one of our experts about the style and diameter most suited to your drum pouring requirements and material handling process flow. Be certain to specify the outside diameter of the drum top, not the inside, when placing your order. For the most accurate measurements, remove the drum lid and take multiple measurements across the rim, then average the measurements.

What is the main consideration for using drum racking systems?
The safety of your warehouse personnel! Remember, 55 gallon barrel racks will hold some extremely heavy fluids, and it is essential that the rack is able to fully support the load. Most modern drum racks are modular in construction so that the structural strength of each unit combines to the whole, and are specially designed to spread their load across a larger area for more stability.

What is the best way to organize and store your 55-gallon drums?
55 Gallon Barrel Racks are a useful way of ensuring that your storage area will be organized and efficient. This will increase the productivity levels and provide another layer of safety to your valued employees as they handle drums. If your drum storage area has been properly designed , and there is ample space for growth, then the self organizing nature of the commercial and industrial drum racks will create a very workable solution.

Easy Rack has a terrific selection of 55-gallon drum material handling equipment!

Oil drums are some of the most widely used storage containers in the marketplace. Easy Rack has a terrific selection of drum material handling equipment to choose from. 55 gallon drums hold all types of liquids such as oil, paint, chemicals and other solvents. They are durable, practical and provide an excellent means of storing and warehousing bulk quantities of liquids.

Full 55-gallon drums can be extremely heavy, and in order to maximize the safety of all employees when moving and handling drums, precautions need to be taken, and the proper equipment used for the safety of customers and employees.

Moving these heavy drums can pose a unique challenge without the use of commercial drum carts. These heavy duty material handling carts provide a perfect means to move even the heaviest drums around the workplace conveniently and safely. Unlike a standard hand truck or dollie, the low profile design, sturdy wheels and cradle feature of drum carts provide a safe and secure way to move drums with out fear of dropping or spilling the load.

Drum dollies are another means warehouse managers use for moving single drums. You typically see these used on drums that have been converted into storage containers or trash cans. They are cost effective solutions to everyday problems.

Drum Carts Make Moving Industrial Containers Easy!

If you struggle with moving 55-gallon drums at your commercial or industrial warehouse facility, you should consider a drum cart from Easy Rack. Drum handling equipment come in many varieties depending on your needs and Easy Rack has a wide selection, with a reasonable price that you can afford.

A rotating drum cart from Easy Rack, for example, uses a simple but effective design to allow sealed oil drums to be picked up and then moved quickly and effectively. The ingenious design is easy to use and all that is required is to hold the cart in a vertical position and slide the two points under the barrel like a dolly. The cart easily rolls back into a horizontal position whereupon it rests on a set of heavy duty casters. The drum is then held securely in place by a cradle design. The ergonomic handles allow a single worker to transport the drum trolley safely, efficiently and securely.

For moving lighter drums around, a simple drum caddy is perhaps your best option. Just like a regular oil drum dolly, it features a sturdy handle to make controlling the device much simpler. These types of drum caddies are ideal for any workplace. Other uses include transporting drums that are used for items other than heavy liquids such as trash, scraps or other items that might be stored in a 55-gallon drum.
If you are looking for a commercial grade drum cart or other material handling supplies & equipment, Easy Rack is your source. We have friendly sales associates who are interested in earning your business. Give us a call at 713-553-1122 or contact us online.
