Drum Cones

Drum cones allow you to precisely control the pouring of dry materials from your drum. They replace the actual drum lid and turn the entire drum itself into an accurate pouring instrument. Drum cones normally fasten to the sides of drums with a clamp collar, which you can obtain from Easy Rack in either Carbon Steel or Type 304 Stainless Steel. Either a slide gate or an iris valve functions as a variable aperture through which the drum contents can be measured and poured. This allows you to better control the pour, and it also extends the reach of the pour by up to 15.5”. When you need to reach beyond obstructions at the receiving container, a drum cone may be the only means you have of safely transferring drum contents.

In addition to more precise and easy pouring, drum cones offer a number of advantages as well. They will greatly reduce dust on the floor when discharging dry material. This helps minimize slip hazards (because dust can and will make a floor slippery) and less man hours spent on cleanup. Slide gates open and close so quickly that drum contents can be immediately dispensed and the pouring immediately stopped. This minimizes waste and makes measurement-oriented tasks much more precise. Any size drum can be fitted with one of these cones. We have cones for open-headed steel drums and for fiber headed drums. The angle of the drum cone is variable as well. You can choose between a 45 degree angle or a 60 degree angle to the 6” discharge opening. If you have special-sized drums in diameters 15-7/8” to 23-3/8”, you can also obtain drum cones in these cylinder sizes as well.

We strongly recommend that if you use a drum cone with a slide gate when you are pouring powdered material. Coarse granulated products are better poured through an Iris gate. The iris gate is made from a flexible sleeve and a handle that revolves around the sleeve to open and close it for use. The iris gate is made to be used with products that have up to 60lbs. per 3ft of density. Anything at or below this range can be safely poured without clogging the sleeve.

You can also order specialty drum cones. Units are available with a valve flange that will attach to the valve of your choice. Other drum cones can be obtained that feature no valve or slide gate and are simply 6” spouts that make pouring quicker and easier. Ask one of our experts about the style and diameter most suited to your drum pouring requirements and material handling process flow. Be certain to specify the outside diameter of the drum top, not the inside, when placing your order. For the most accurate measurements, remove the drum lid and take multiple measurements across the rim, then average the measurements.

Industrial drum heaters are designed to heat a standard 55 gallon drum quickly, evenly and effectively.

If a liquid is too cold, it may not flow properly, or adhere to a surface correctly when it is being applied, and this can cause huge problems in achieving the proper finish on a job. Volatile liquids need to be kept at the correct temperature, and the best way of achieving this, and maintaining liquids at the right heat is through the use of Easy Rack 55-gallon barrel heaters.

These ingenious industrial drum heaters are specially designed to evenly heat the outside of a standard 55 gallon drum without creating variation in temperatures. There are a number of different drum handling equipment and heaters from Easy Rack that are designed to heat the liquid to the correct temperature.

A normal barrel heater clamps around the outside of a standard 55 gallon drum, and a set of heating elements inside the unit provide a source of heat that can be controlled. Most 55-gallon drum heaters include a thermostat that automatically regulates the temperature that the barrel is heated to the right temperature. This helps with drum dispensing of any liquid.

The key difference between different drum heaters models is the range of temperature settings that they are capable of achieving. For example, if you use a 480 volt model that produces 4,400 watts it can produce extremely high temperatures up to 550 F. This high temperature is excellent for viscous liquids. For smaller jobs, such as 5-gallon containers, Easy Rack has 5-gallon pail heaters.

When using a barrel heater in your workplace, safety should always be one of your main priorities, and despite the various safety procedures that are in place thanks to the design of the heaters, it is still important to make sure that you pay attention to the heat of the unit, and are always aware of the risks involved with any volatile chemical. It is vitally important that industrial drum heaters are not used with liquids that create flammable vapors, as the elements can get hot enough to cause the gas to ignite and cause a fire.

Easy Rack sales staff can assist you in selecting the correct pail and drum heater for your needs. Why not give us a call at 281-342-0200 and let us earn your business? We welcome your call and the opportunity to serve you!

A plastic spill pallet is a variation of a standard pallet that is designed to contain spilled liquids.

If your business use volatile chemicals or oils in your business, then one of your main concerns as far as drum handling equipment goes is to reduce the possibility of accidents or spills. Aside from the costs and health issues associated with spilling volatile or expensive chemicals the major concern is reducing a risk of injury to your staff. Because accidents happen, it is important to put as many safety measures such as Easy Rack spill pallets in place to minimize the risk of release when a barrel topples over.

A plastic spill pallet is a variation of a standard pallet that is designed to contain any liquids that slosh out of a drum and prevent them from spreading across the floor. Any liquid can be captured in a reservoir under the pallet. There are a number of different models of spill pallets available from Easy Rack that are manufactured for various circumstances, although they all work in roughly the same way.

In general, the pallets need to be made from a non reactive material such as a plastic. Mostly, the material of choice is polyethylene. This is lightweight enough to be carried well on the fork lift, and can resist damage from almost any liquid that might be spilled as it is being moved around.

Depending on the kind of materials that you are moving around in oil drums, you can choose different Easy Rack spill pallets with various storage capacities for dealing with spills. From oil drum pallets that can contain just nine gallons of liquid through to much larger units that up to two full 55 gallon drums, and handle 120 gallons of spilled liquid.

The principal time when you will need a spill pallet is when drums are being moved around the workplace from one location to another. It is at this time, when the motion of the fork lift can cause a drum to topple over that it is most important to prevent spillage. Generally, it is not necessary to keep the drums stored on a spill pallet, as there is no need or justification for the additional cost in terms of a storage solution.

Why risk accidents when a simple spill pallet from Easy Rack can save you time and money. Hazards caused by accidental spills require tedious reporting and can erode a safe work place record. Let us carefully listen to you requirements and suggest the right solution for your needs. Operators are standing by at 281-342-0200 to assist you and to make the ordering process seamless. We can help you with all your material handing equipment needs and installation services. As a well recognized supplier in the industry, we have access to everything from modular building, commercial lighting equipment and any type of pallet rack or shelving unit you can think of.

How do you handle, move and transport 55-gallon drums at your warehouse?

When transporting bulky 55 gallon drums around a busy industrial environment, safety should be at the top of your list. With that in mind, you will find it much safer to transport full 55 gallon drums from one place to another using Easy Rack fork lift mounted drum handlers.

Easy Rack fork lift mounted drum handlers have been specifically designed to make moving a single drum from one place to another as safe and straightforward as possible. With the smooth lifting action of the forklift, coupled with the secure grip on the drum offered by the state of the art equipment, there is very little risk of a spill, or a failure of the device. This means that the load will get to its destination almost every time.

Both top and bottom grip devices are available, and both serve exactly the same purpose, although thanks to the additional capacity of the top grip drum handler, this is generally a more popular option. The reason why this is the case, that the drum handler which grips the drum at the top can carry more weight is that the weight is more evenly supported and much more stable in place as it is moved around the workplace.

If you are interested in learning more about drum handling equipment please give us a call at 723-553-1122 or ask our expert online. We will work hard to get you the answers and welcome your call! Thank You!

Like scrap wire, 55-gallon drum crushers turn scrap metals into cold hard cash when recycled!

It's a fact, 55 gallon drums are some of the most versatile and useful storage mediums that are available for the industrial environment. Did you know there comes a time when they reach the end of their useful life? Yes, and their size and bulk actually becomes a major disadvantage when it comes to disposal. So compacting the used drums into blocks of steel is a great way to recycle steel and contribute to the environment. Easy Rack have specially designed single drum compactors or crushers that are extremely useful piece of equipment that will quickly pay for itself in terms by reducing the cost of material disposal. Turn that scrap into money by doing it yourself!

Can a drum crusher compact the drum as well as the contents?
Yes, a drum compactor not only crushes the drum, but it can also compresses items within the drum such as metal shavings, drop or other valuable scraps. If you are using 55 gallon drums for waste disposal, and want to be able to fit the maximum amount of waste into each one, simply put the laden drum with no top into the compactor with the crushing plate removed, and the piston will drive down onto the contents of the drum, and crush them down into a much smaller volume without damaging the outside of the drum in the slightest.

How do I learn more about recycling used 55-gallon drums?
The material handling specialists at Easy Rack would like to help you turn your excess drums into real cash by providing the tools of the trade. Why not give Easy Rack a call at 713-553-1122 today or visit them online at http://www.easyrack.org/.

Easily lift 55-gallon drums on top of each other for storage using commercial drum movers.

If you store 55 gallon drums at your place of business and rotate stock frequently, there are a number of different ways to maximize efficiency within your drum storage area. One such method is the use of oil drum racks.

These specialized drum storage solutions allow 55-gallon drums to be stacked vertically on top of each other which is ideal for non reactive and inert liquids. This frees up valuable floor space and increases your storage capacity. You can also store drums horizontally on specially designed stacking shelves. Horizontal orientation is better for liquids that you do not want to have stacked directly one on top of the other. Which ever option you choose for your drum storage solution, using the proper drum movers to get drums into their final position is essential if you are to avoid doing damage to systems or causing accidental spillages.

Do you handle drums with your forklift?
The Easy Rack fork mounted drum positioning system attaches directly onto the standard forks of a forklift truck, and allows for moving drums up to 800 pounds in weight to be lifted and put into place. This drum mover uses an ingenious system to tilt the drum through 90 degrees so that it can be laid flat on a shelving unit. The smoothness of operation that this system offers, coupled with the precise positioning possible with a well trained operator means that you will be able to stack oil drums effectively in place with little risk.

Are there more than one type of drum movers?
There a number of different drum movers that have been created in order to lift drums on top of each other for stacked storage. These drum lifters clip onto the top of the barrel and can lift it into place while holding it securely. The device hooks against the drum, and uses the weight and shape of the oil drum to hold the lifter into place.

Easy Rack serves commercial and industrial companies of all sizes while keeping the end-user in mind as well. A great many of our material handling products such as drum handling equipment, pallet jacks, ladders, and storage shelving offer equal value both for the home and the commercial facility. Easy Rack keeps an open mind and willingness to participate in the world’s new global economy while making certain to equip domestic companies and individuals with the best tools available to maintain a strong position on the economic playing field. Get those juices flowing with an electric drum pump from Houston Texas based Easy Rack

Do you have a situation where a manual drum pumps is impractical for getting liquids out of 55-gallon drum or pails? Under these circumstances, using an electrical drum pump is a perfect solution that will both cut the amount of time taken and make things simpler for your staff. As with manually powered pumps, there are different types of design available from Easy Rack that serve slightly different purposes.

How do I regulate flow with an electric drum pump?
Electric drum pumps have the ability to provide a very smooth and tireless flow of liquid from a drum. Rather than the pulsing flow that comes from a manual piston drum pump, with an electrically powered model, the liquid is drawn out of the drum in a single smooth flow, meaning that there is less potential for splashing.

How do I prevent cross contamination of fluids?
It is common sense to use different electric drum pumps for each kind of liquid that you need to move. This prevents oil and water based liquids from contaminating each other and maintains all the liquids at the highest possible levels of purity. It is advisable to fully clean each pump system after use to prevent any blockage, particularly in any case where the drum pump has been used for liquids that can congeal such as paint.

Are there different pumps for volatile materials?
Yes, different kinds of liquids can react with the interior surfaces of the electric pump in different ways, and in order to ensure the long life and maintain the quality of your electric drum pump in the best possible condition, it is vitally important to use only the correct kind of pump with each chemicals. At Easy Rack, you can choose from 3 different materials inside the pump:

Polypropylene is a high quality plastic that is used in light duty drum pumps. Electric drum pumps using polypropylene are intended for use with light weight liquids, and can resist corrosion from acids. They are not generally compatible with solvents, as these can break down the chemicals in the plastic and cause the pump to fail.

Stainless steel pumps are useful under many different circumstances, and will not corrode, even if it is left immersed in water for long periods. Stainless steel can retain its strength with high weight oil and provided that the pump is well maintained, will remain in excellent condition indefinitely.

Aluminum pumps are good for a huge range of different liquids. They are generally slightly less hard wearing than stainless steel, although this will depend on the exact quality of the pump equipment that you are using, and the quality of maintenance. Aluminum generates its own surface patina on exposure to air, protecting the metal from reacting with acids, which means the pump can be used with a slightly wider range of chemicals.

If you are in the market for drum handling supplies such as drum carts, drum dollies, drum lifting equipment or even commercial lighting fixtures to light up the warehouse, Easy Rack is your kind of store. Our knowledgeable and friendly sales staff can assist with all types of equipment including wide span shelving, industrial shelving racks and ergonomic equipment such as carts, hand trucks and other helpful tools.

Manual drum pumps from Easy Rack keep those fluids moving!

Having the correct model of oil drum pump for your needs available at a moments notice will allow your staff to enjoy a much easier way of getting small quantities of lubricating oil or other liquids out of a standard 55-gallon drum. By having a simple oil drum pump, you can reduce time and effort as well as prevent accidental spills. Easy Rack has plenty of commercial grade oil drum pumps that service a wide range of different purposes.

What should I consider when purchasing a drum pump?
The most important thing to consider is that you need a different pump for every single drum. While it may seem economical to cut back on the number of expensive pumps that you buy, this is a false economy, as even with the best will in the world, there will be occasions where a member of staff does not properly clean out the oil drum pump after use, and then use it for another chemical. This can contaminate the liquid with oil or vice versa, and in turn this can cause extensive and expensive damage in machinery when the oil is used as a lubricant. Using drum carts in conjunction with drum pumps can really speed up the task!

What is a rotary drum pump?
A rotary pump is another type of oil drum pump that provides a nice even flow, although it must be primed automatically using a crank. This type of pump is best suited to extremely viscous liquids, and is therefore popular as a source of lubricating oil. Care should be taking using drum lifting equipment with the rotary or any pump installed.

What is the difference between a transitional piston drum pump and a lever drum pump?
Traditional piston drum pumps and lever drum pumps are two versions of the same basic design. The piston pump is designed for lighter liquids, while the addition of a lever means that the liquid can be drawn up more effectively, and thereby it is ideal for a wider range of applications. Both of these simple pumps have the benefit of being extremely reliable, and with little to go wrong with them, it is feasible to expect them to last for many years of effective service.

Should I purchase a manual or electric drum pump?
Whether you choose an electric drum pump or a manual drum pump, it should be suitable for the liquid that is being used. Never use a polypropylene based pump to transfer solvents, as these can actually dissolve the pump in use, and this can lead to injury as well as the general damage that any spillage creates.

Choose from static and semi portable 35 gallon or 55 gallon drum dumpers from Houston based Easy Rack!

If you regularly use 55-gallon drums to store excess liquids, you know they can get quite heavy and very difficult to move. In order to get the contents of the steel drum into a skip or other disposal area, a drum dumper is the ideal piece of equipment, and plays an important role in the waste handling process. Easy Rack carries a wide selection of drum dumping equipment from some of the best commercial manufacturers.

In essence, a drum dumper is a relatively simple piece of equipment. It lifts a 55 gallon drum into the air and over a pivot to allow the contents of the drum to be poured out into a waiting skip. The drum is clamped into place in order to prevent it slipping out of place, and ensuring that the drum can be reused.

With a standard drum being able to hold as much as 1,500 lb of waste, lifting a drum up manually is impractical, and even standard drum lifting equipment is not generally designed to make pouring and emptying easy. As a result, a drum dumper is the perfect tool for making it possible to get rid of waste without any physical effort.

Drum dumpers feature a hard wearing construction and are very flexible in use, able to handle both 55 and 30 gallon drums. The drum is fitted into place and secured using the clamps. Then, at the touch of a button, the powerful hydraulic rams are able to hoist the drum and its contents into the air and pivot them. Once the drum has been lifted to the highest point, the contents will fall along a hard wearing chute into the waiting skip or other receptacle ready for processing, or proper off site disposal as appropriate.

Choose from static and semi portable designs of drum dumper. That way, if your unit generates a large amount of waste, you can move the dumper along a row of individual dumpsters or containers in order to keep your operation as efficient as possible.

Easy Rack, a Houston based material handling supplier has a wide range of 55 gallon drum pumps available.

If you work with 55-gallon drums, you most likely have one or more commercial drum pumps that you use to extract or dispensing liquids!

Easy Rack, a Houston based material handling supply house has a wide range of 55 gallon drum pumps available. Drum pumps come in many shapes and sizes depending on your requirements. To identify the correct pump for your application you must first identify whether you are pumping thin liquids or something with more viscosity. For thin, light liquids such as water and light oil, you can use a regular piston pump, as very little force is required in order to get the liquid out. These lightweight pumps are simple to use, low cost and easy to maintain.

When a heavier gauge liquid is being stored in the drum, a standard piston pump will not have the power to draw up the fluid without a great deal of effort from the operator, and a more powerful system is required. Easy Rack offer a number of 55 gallon drum pumps that feature a lever attached to the top of the standard piston. This, coupled with a larger chamber in the piston makes it much easier to pump liquid out of the drum and into an appropriate receptacle to be used elsewhere in the building or site.

The drawback with both kinds of piston based pump is that they are both limited to producing a relatively uneven flow of liquid, and this can lead to spills and accidents. When liquids are pumped out using a piston, the pressure varies considerably, and this results in pulsing or uneven flow rates.

An alternative to a drum style piston pump is a rotary pump. With these 55 gallon drum pumps, you will be able to get a steady flow of liquid out of the drum, and even deal with the heavier gauges of oil and even paint.

If you are considering replacing a drum pump, ergonomic material handling equipment or any of the following commercial material handling products, just give us a call.

Oil drums are some of the most widely used storage containers in the marketplace. Easy Rack has a terrific selection of drum material handling equipment to choose from. 55 gallon drums hold all types of liquids such as oil, paint, chemicals and other solvents. Moving these heavy drums can pose a unique challenge without the use of commercial drum carts. These heavy duty material handling carts provide a perfect means to move even the heaviest drums around the workplace conveniently and safely. Unlike a standard hand truck or dollie, the low profile design, sturdy wheels and cradle feature of drum carts provide a safe and secure way to move drums with out fear of dropping or spilling the load.

Drum Carts Make Moving Industrial Containers Easy!

If you struggle with moving 55-gallon drums at your commercial or industrial warehouse facility, you should consider a drum cart from Easy Rack. Drum handling equipment come in many varieties depending on your needs and Easy Rack has a wide selection, with a reasonable price that you can afford.

A rotating drum cart from Easy Rack, for example, uses a simple but effective design to allow sealed oil drums to be picked up and then moved quickly and effectively. The ingenious design is easy to use and all that is required is to hold the cart in a vertical position and slide the two points under the barrel like a dolly. The cart easily rolls back into a horizontal position whereupon it rests on a set of heavy duty casters. The drum is then held securely in place by a cradle design. The ergonomic handles allow a single worker to transport the drum trolley safely, efficiently and securely.

For moving lighter drums around, a simple drum caddy is perhaps your best option. Just like a regular oil drum dolly, it features a sturdy handle to make controlling the device much simpler. These types of drum caddies are ideal for any workplace. Other uses include transporting drums that are used for items other than heavy liquids such as trash, scraps or other items that might be stored in a 55-gallon drum.
