Security Gates

Security gates can be installed in front of dock doors, lift-up doors, hallways, and entranceways. They improve security, prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas, maintain ventilation to the building, and provide guards and managers with visibility in both directions. They are used extensively throughout the industrial, manufacturing, commercial and even educational and healthcare industries. Major factories major factories, shipping operations, railways, airports, military bases, warehousing complexes, retailers, schools, universities, hospitals, medical laboratories, and office buildings all use security gates to maintain a more controlled environment at all times.

Security gates are made from 3/4" wide 14 gauge steel channel that have been riveted together back to back. The upright rails of the gate are hot rolled angled iron that keeps the gate from being pushed or broken through. To prevent the gate from being bowed inward from the very center or pressed down from above, a drop pin in the center of the gate immobilizes it and adds extra strength and stability.

Easy Rack gates can be obtained in any of four standard model types that can be further customized to fit uncommonly sized access points. Every gate features a locking bar to accommodate a standard padlock. Every security gate will also pivot 180 degrees to the side when it is not being used. Please keep in mind that it is normal for the gate to drop approximately one inch in height when it is extended across the doorway. When ordering, estimate gate height one inch above listed measurement to compensate for this slight variation.

Door Security Gates
Door gates are intended to fit door openings that measure 24" to 48" wide and 61" to 83" high. They are frequently used in office buildings to restrict access to doors in the backs of building. Small retailers and gas stations also use them to protect their storage areas late at night. Door security gates are manufactured with a reversible hinge design that allows you to mount them on either the left or right side of the door. You can either mount them in the door casing or in door opening itself.

Single Security Gates
These single-piece security gates are made do cover openings measuring 4-1/2ʼ X 7-1/2ʼ wide and up to 8ʼ in height. They are very often mounted over industrial bay doors, garage doors, and warehouse doors. Standard locking position for these gates is on the left side, but you can also have them customized to lock on the right side if required. As in the case of door gates, single security gates will mount either over the doorway itself or over the door casing. A ball bearing caster allows you to conveniently extend and retract the gate.

Double Security Gates
These large, two-piece gates will mount over industrial doors of any kind measuring up to 10ʼ in height. They are ideal for dock doors and overhead doors that have to permit vehicle as well as human traffic to pass through. Both sides of the gate pivot outward from the center a full 180 degrees. Double security gates lock together in the center with a standard padlock. Easy Rack will these gates to fit any size width of dock or overhead door

Portable Security Gates
Portable gates are used by schools and hospitals where certain areas must be restricted after normal hours of operation. Schools block off hallways and cafeteria areas with portable gates after students leave the building. Hospitals use portable security gates to block off certain areas of the building at night to restrict traffic only to key hallways and rooms.

Construction crews frequently rely on portable gates as safety tools. Workers mount them in doorways and hallways of buildings to prevent access to unfinished or unsafe areas. Portable gates collapse to a convenient 6 X 6.5ʼ when they are not being used and can be stored in closets or portable buildings.

Door Security Gates

Doors do not always succeed in barring access to unauthorized personnel. Intruders can enter almost any door with enough determination. Door security gates add a layer of security to buildings that need to restrict or prohibit access through one or more of its doors. They are made from a folding lattice of sturdy ¾”channel that expands and covers the entrance to the doorway, and they can be mounted either in the casing or the facing of the door opening.

Folding security gates are designed to restrict access to door openings ranging between 24” and 48” in width and 61” to 83” in height. Door security gates feature a reversible hinge design that allows them to be mounted to either the left side or the right side of the doorway. When opened, they will pivot a full 180 degrees to allow safe and convenient access to the building. Each door security gate includes a locking bar to secure the unit and block unauthorized access and/or intrusion.

Almost any building can benefit from a metal security door gate. Small boutiques and convenience stores top this list because deliveries usually come through a door in the back of the business that can be easily broken if additional security measures are not taken. Having a gate on the door can discourage burglars looking for an easy target, and it can also possibly qualify a business for an insurance break if the carrier recognizes the value in added security. Convenience stores and gas stations also can use these gates to secure doorways to garage areas, storage areas, and private offices. This not only protects property, but also human life, because many convenience stores and gas stations stay open 24 hours a day, and whoever is on duty is most vulnerable to a burglary through the rear of the building. Adding a security door gate is something every 24 hour facility should strongly consider as a precaution against theft and violent crime. Industrial facilities can also use steel security gates on doors that lead to restricted areas. Because these gates are controlled by padlocks, it is a simple matter to issue a key to only those who need to be in that part of the building.

Installing security door gates is simple. You simply stand the folded gate against the door frame and mark the mounting surface through the holes in the hinge bar. It works best if you use 5/16 X 2” lag bolts if you are mounting it with wood. If you are mounting the door security gate with steel, drill and tap for 5/16 X 2” lag bolts in 3/8” holes. Then, drill appropriately sized holes in the mounting surface, and then mount the gate by inserting the screws through the hinge bar. Once you have the security door gate securely mounted, stretch it across the opening and line up the padlock hole in the locking bar with the padlock hole in the gate. Next, mark the mounting holes of the locking bar with a pen or pencil, drill the holes, and mount the locking bar with screws. Now the security door gate is ready to be pulled shut, and locked with a padlock.

Metal Security Gates

Easy Rack manufacturers the "Classic" design of folding metal security gate that has stood the test of time and proven its durability and reliability. Our folding metal gates and safety barriers are manufactured from 3/4" wide 14 gauge steel channel that is riveted back to back with solid steel rivets. Solid rivets give each gate the necessary strength to endure stress and perform reliably for years. Gate rails are made from 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1/8" thick hot rolled angle iron that resists abuse and last longer than thinner alternatives. Drop pins are made of 5/8" round rod and all casters are steel. We thoroughly coat each metal security gate with black enamel paint.

Metal security gates barricade access points and create restricted areas for security and safety purposes. Made out of a strong, impenetrable lattice of 14-gauge channel steel, a metal security gate cannot be pushed or broken down. Because the lattice is technically mostly empty space, however, it provides clear visibility for surveillance, and it allows for building ventilation of fumes and excess heat.

There are four basic model designs of metal security gates that Easy Rack currently provides: single gates, double gates, door gates, and portable gates. Single and Double gates are mounted on hinge pins that allow you to swing them to the side like a doorway. The center of the gate is reinforced by a drop pin that prevents it from caving in when pushed either from the center or the top. This design makes the unit both durable and vandal resistant.

Metal Security Door Gates
These gates are intended to limit access to normal sized doors in commercial and industrial buildings. . Easy Rack has sizes that will fit all doors and will manufacture custom-sized gates on request. Metal security door gates offer industrial clients a versatile design that allows them to be mounted to lock on either the left or the right. Metal security door gates will mount on either the door frame recess or the outer wall surrounding the door frame. Either mounting option will allow the gate to be folded and swung to the side when it is not in use.

Single Metal security gates
These gates are made out of a single steel lattice and cover the entrance to any number of larger commercial doorways, such as bay doors or garage type doors. Standard locking position is on the left side, but custom ordered right side locking gates can be requested through your Easy Rack representative. To keep the gate from losing its center, single metal security gates feature a drop pin in the center which provides added stability in wider openings.

Double Metal Security Gates
Just as the name states, double metal security gates are two steel lattices connecting together in the center. This allows both sides to be swung completely 180 degrees out of the way when necessary. These are ideal metal security gates to use in front of dock entrances that have heavy vehicle traffic, such as fork trucks, pallet trucks, pickups, and vans.

Portable Metal Security Gates
These gates are used a great deal in construction environments. They provide portable security, and when they are folded up they are only 6.5ʼ high, they are small enough to fit through a standard door opening, and compact enough to be stored out of site. Portable metal security gates are easy to install and lock to the wall with a sample padlock hasp arrangement that comes included in your order.

Educational facilities and medical care institutions also use them to restrict building access after normal working hours. Homes and offices can also benefits from folding security gates when extra security measures are desired and determined appropriate.

The classic folding gate design is that of an interlocking lattice of steel, riveted back to back to provide a sturdy barrier against intrusion and to withstand exposure to environmental elements. Standard sizes offered by Easy Rack from 4-1/2' wide by 5-1/2' high single gates to 16' wide by 8-1/2' high double gates. Door gates are made for door openings between 24” to 48” wide in heights from 61” to 83”. Portable gates are available in sizes 6 and 12 feet wide. Easy Rack will also provide custom size single and double security folding gates up to 10’ high.

Folding Security Door Gates
These gates are made to secure door openings ranging from 24" to 48" wide and 61" to 83" high. They feature a unique reversible hinge design that allows them to be mounted to either the right side or the left side of the doorway in either the casing or the face of the opening. Each folding security door gate includes with a locking bar that can be secured with a padlock. When not in use, the gate will pivot 180 degrees out of the way when open.

Single Folding Security Gates
These one piece gates are manufactured for standard openings, patio doors, garages, and industrial and commercial entrances measuring 4-1/2' to 7-1/2' wide and up to 8' in height. Single folding security gates are shipped assembled to lock on the left (default position), but an Easy Rack specialist can have them manufactured to lock on the right side. A ball bearing caster, welded to the lead rail of the gate, is used to aid in the extension and retraction of the gate. Like door gates, single gates will pivot 180 degrees when not in use. To compensate from the loss of structure when the gate is stretched open, a drop pin holds the center of the gate in place.

Double Folding Security Gates
These gates are needed for larger openings, overhead doors, dock doors, storefronts, and bay doors in factories and warehouses. These two-piece gates can be custom fitted to any size width, and a maximum height of 10'. Because they are Double Folding Gates, each side will swing 180 degrees out of the way, allowing the gates to be used with dock and overhead doors in industrial facilities that need an unobstructed passage for vehicles and material handling equipment to pass through.

Portable Folding Security Gates
These gates are very frequently used in public schools and hospitals to seal off hallways, cafeteria areas, and sensitive areas within the building. They are made with a a two piece design consisting of dual 6’ X 6.5’ sections. Portable Folding Security Gates are easy to install because they are designed to pass through standard door heights and be can be rolled up for convenient storage. For very large entrances or hallways, additional 6’ sections can be added on.
