Spreader Bar Forklift Attachment

Spreader bars are forklift attachments that go on the ends of fork trucks. They are basically adjustable, heavy-duty bars whose purpose is to prevent long objects from bending in the middle and warping.

A very long, heavy object will do this when picked up by regular forklift tines. A bar is a preferable lifting tool for such an object because it distributes force equally from end to end and supports the entire object at all points, not just the center.

Spreader bars can also be attached to crane hooks. There is a hole in the middle of each bar that accommodates a hook. This allows objects to be lifted to heights inaccessible to forklifts.

These attachments are manufactured to universally fit any straight mast, extendable reach, or rough terrain fork truck. Fork pickets in the bar allow it to accept forks that measure up to 7 inches wide and 2 and one half inches thick.

Three different sizes are available as well: 12 foot, 20 foot, and 30 foot models.

Each of these sizes is adjustable to some extent. The size of the model, in fact, refers to the length of the attachment at the point of its maximum extension. For instance, a 12 foot bar actually operates between 8 and 12 feet.

An interesting thing about spreader bars is the way they handle weight. The shorter the length of the bar, the more weight it can handle. For example, the 12 foot model, operated at only 8 feet, can handle a load of 8,000 pounds. At 10 feet, it can handle 6,400 pounds, while at 12 feet it can only lift 5,000 pounds.

We can see from this that when the right sized fork truck attachment is used at the appropriate length, any oddly sized object can be manipulated safely and easily. These attachments can be used both indoors and outdoors and are frequently utilized in the repair, material handling, and construction industries.

Common uses for spreader bars include, but are not limited to, the following: Moving rebar cages. This keeps both the frame and the mesh of the cage from warping. Transportation of building erectors and beams. Moving and placement of sheet roofing and siding. Moving of erectors and beams can be done by forklift or crane. Product Basics A skid steer brush cutter is a powerful mower that attaches to the end of a skid steer loader. Its purpose is to cut heavy brush and thick, tall grass down to ground level. The unit is capable of cutting on both forward and reverse. It comes with three long life reversible cutting blades manufactured from AR400 resistant plates. There are two basic sizes available: 60 inches and 72 inches.

A Skid steer brush cutter was invented based upon a definitive need to clear heavy brush from ditches, future roadways, construction sites, and driveways. Prior to the invention of the device, smaller mowers had to be used to cut shrubs and grass. When workers encountered small diameter trees and exceptionally large shrubs, they had to use machetes and axes to clear out the heavier growth. There were plenty of instances, of course, where standard mowers were heavily damaged due to operator miscalculation of exactly how much they were able to cut. A mower was therefore developed that would attach to a skid steer and that would be capable of cutting everything from grass to small trees measuring up to 5 inches in diameter.

Equipment Features at a Glance The skid steer brush cutter is controlled by a heavy duty direct drive gear box that raises and lower the mower. The unit can fit any modern sized skid steer thanks to a universal mounting plate. It can also be attached to a forklift via an optional quick tach. The raised front funnels brush, while a heavy duty push bar helps push over small trees. Hydraulic hoses and couplers are protected from debris by a sturdy nylon sleeve. Skid steer brush mowers can cut vegetation both at ground level and above ground level. The operator positions the deck at the manufacturer recommended height, and the hydraulic system and sturdy blades do the rest. A hydraulic motor cushion valve regulates the blade system and will implement a system shut down in the event the unit is overtaxed. This protects the mower’s hydraulic system and blades when cutting large diameter shrubs and trees.

Applications Skid steer brush cutters are often used to cut trails through parks. The mower can cut grass, brush, and trees down to ground level. Mulch or wood chips can then be applied to create a walking surface for the trail.

In commercial areas, the mower can be used to clear unwanted brush away from break areas, areas around ponds, fountains, or fences.

Prior to general construction activities being implemented, a good once over with a skid steer cutter can clean a lot from tall grass, undergrowth, saplings, weeds, and trees measuring up to 5 inches in diameter.

The skid steer brush cutter can also be used to create mulch from unwanted brush it mows down. The operator positions the deck at the height recommended by the particular manufacturer. Then, the unit is driven slowly over vegetation as the operator uses the hydraulic tilt to push the vegetation over. Blades cut into the vegetation as it is pushed over. The back of the cutter is then brought down and drug over the vegetation to completely mulch it.
